It’s no secret that our lives now look way different than they did pre-coronavirus. So as we look forward to things (hopefully) going mostly back to normal by the summer, it’s time to decide which good habits from quarantine we’re going to keep and which pre-covid habits we’re going to retire — permanently.
Pre-Covid Habits To Retire
Yeah, some things about pre-covid life need to stay in the past. Here’s everything I’m leaving allll the way back in 2019 — and you should, too.
1..Sleeping in on the weekends
I was the girl who always looked forward to not needing to wake up early. I’d go out and stay up late on weekend evenings and seriously sleep in the next morning. But since going-out options became virtually nonexistent during COVID, I stopped going out and staying up late, and now I’m up by 8am every single day of the week. And let me just tell you, I feel way healthier! I no longer feel sleep deprived when Monday morning comes around, and I love having a steady sleep cycle.
2. Glorifying busy-ness
Anyone else? I always loved being busy, and when I all of a sudden didn’t have a job for two months at the beginning of quarantine, I didn’t really know what to do with myself. But I re-learned how to rest and enjoy old hobbies, like reading books, doing puzzles and going on nature walks. I seriously was able to decompress during that time, which helped me realize how much I need to prioritize my own health and self care over being ultra busy 24/7.
3. Sharing drinks with anyone
Yeah, can we please all become germaphobes once this is over? Seriously, get your spit off my straw, please. Never again am I sharing drinks with people — it’s kind of a gross habit, if you think about it. Plus, it can get you sick. Bye.
4. Accepting every social invitation
Did you ever feel obligated to say yes to absolutely everything you were invited to before covid? Us too. But nope, it’s time to let that life habit go! Prioritize your self care and know when you need to say no and spend some time relaxing alone.
5. Creating a “curated” social media life
During quarantine, things got real everywhere. We saw a lot less “curated” social media feeds because all of a sudden nobody could create them. So it became all about taking care of yourself, doing things at home, and appreciating what you have. Let’s keep the curated feed out for good, ok?
Quarantine Good Habits We’re Keeping
As much as 2020 sucked, we did adopt some good habits that we’re definitely keeping!
1..Cooking for myself more
Meal planning, yes please! Since I wasn’t as frazzled during covid, I actually started meal planning more, and my body seriously thanked me! Again, prioritizing my own health is huge in making sure I can actually get the things done that I need to get done.
2. Staying in touch with loved ones
Anyone else come up with creative ways to stay in touch with your friends and family over the last year? I wrote letters to my grandma and had family game nights over Zoom often, and I want to keep those habits up! I hope never again to be too busy to stay in touch with my loved ones.
3. Low-maintenance beauty routine
It’s officially time to stop spending an hour on your hair and makeup every morning. You definitely don’t need to. If you’re anything like me, you’ve perfected a 10-minute look for the necessary grocery store/Target runs, and you honestly probably don’t need to upgrade from that too much for work. Low-maintenance = more time to sleep in, and if that’s not a win, what is?!
4. Doing more offline activities
Hopefully during quarantine you adopted some new hobbies — baking, reading, family game nights, you name it! Definitely keep those up post-covid. I know I’ll still make it a habit to regularly meditate, practice mindfulness, and journal!
5. Working out without the gym
We got super into home and outdoor workouts during quarantine, and that’s a habit that will stick with us for the long run! Home and nature workouts cut down on commute time and that huge gym bill you’ve been paying every month. And the home workout options are really endless!
