9 Summer Date Ideas You Definitely Haven’t Heard Of Yet

Whether you and your partner have been together for weeks, months, years, or decades, we’ve all run into the problem of not knowing what to do for date nights.

This summer, we’re taking advantage of all the season has to offer us. With later nights and warmer temperatures, there’s no need to be cooped up inside all summer trying to beat the heat.

If you’re lacking the motivation or inspiration to think of some great summer date night ideas, we’ve got you covered! Here are some of the best summer date night ideas that you might never have heard of before.

What is a Summer Date Night?

While there are many date ideas that we can come up with for any season, summer date nights are special because they revolve around the season and embracing the heat. These dates can look like anything you want — “from a fairytale dinner on a secluded tea light-lit patio, road tripping to go bouldering for the first time, or sketching a landscape scene in the park — like you’re in Little Women.” This summer, it’s all about fun, romance, and making memories.

Make an At-Home Picnic

While there are some amazing hikes and parks you can go to, if you and your partner prefer the air conditioning to the heat, have your picnic at home! Go ahead and pack up all your picnic accessories, but opt for comfy clothes and pillows instead of picnic-chic.

Dine Al Fresco

Another way to spice up your at-home dinners is to dine outside! This is a chance for you and your partner to get all the date feelings without ever leaving your house. You can even dress up in your best clothes and get ready, then enjoy a night in your backyard!

This date night idea is also great if you and your partner love to cook. Have each of you make a dish that the other loves for these Al Fresco dinners. You can also stretch your culinary skills and invest in a cooking class or make something you’ve never made before.

DIY Scavenger Hunt

Just because we’re grown up doesn’t mean we don’t still love scavenger hunts! Take two separate days where you and your partner create clues and send each other on the hunt for answers. These scavenger hunts can take place in your house or around town.

If you want to go out of your house for the scavenger hunt, you and your partner can opt to visit an art museum on a free museum day. You can turn it into a scavenger hunt where each of you “make a list including things like: A painting with sadness, A painting that reminds me of you, A painting that has a crack in it, A painting from the 1500s, A painting with an angel in it, etc.”

Go Stargazing

When was the last time you and your hubby slowed down and just looked at the stars? When was the last time you snuggled up outside and had nothing to do but rest with each other? Spend some quiet time this season looking at the stars. Drive to a secluded (but safe) area away from the city lights and look up at the stars. Bring blankets and pillows and take the night off from being busy.

Go to an Outdoor Concert

It truly is outdoor concert season. Whether you live in a big city or a small town, you can most likely find an outdoor concert near you sometime this summer. If you have to drive a bit for one, make it a road trip and spend the night in a cool city!

If you’re going to a local outdoor concert, you can also take the time to be tourists in your own city. We all make fun of tourists in our cities, but they enjoy our homes more than we do. Do a quick Google search to find fun things to do where you are and do them! Buy a shirt that says your city’s name in big letters (the tackiest one wins). Let yourselves have fun right where you are.

For all my go-getters and DIYers, this date idea is for you. It often feels like we have a million things stacked on our to-do lists and our home improvement list is always growing. Thankfully, “Summertime is a great time to start a new project together, such as fixing up the yard, building some furniture,” or anything else you might need to do.

Tackling some DIY projects can only be made more fun when the two of you do it together, so find something you can work on throughout these last hot months of summer.

Go Camping in the Backyard

If you don’t love the outdoors but still want to get outside this summer, go camping in your backyard! I don’t know too many people who are fans of roughing it in the great outdoors, so rough it a little closer to home.

You can even include the kiddos on this date (if you want) and make it a whole experience. If you hate the idea of sleeping on the ground, bring your air mattress out and add that to the other camping essentials you have. This is the perfect way to get out without getting too wild this summer.

Go on a Hike

We all want to be a little more active in the summer, and hikes are one of the best ways to do that. Search the closest mountain ranges or hiking paths near your home and get out there! You can also search based on difficulty and slowly ‘climb’ through the list until you reach the hardest ones.

Have a Craft Night

We’ve all seen the wine and canvas date nights by now, but how many of us have done them? Grab your tools, get some wine, and have fun. If you want to get more hands-on about it, have a paint fight with each other outside.

If you have kiddos and want to create a truly messy and great memory, make a laundry line mural painting. Throw an old sheet on your laundry line or the ground and make some art! You can use Kool-Aid mix in a water gun, regular paints and brushes, Princess Diaries it and pop balloons filled with paint on the canvas, or any other creative (and messy) activity you want to do to the sheet! Hang it up in your hallway once it’s dry so you can always remember the summer.
