If you, like me, are a cat mom, you know that cats are…well, complicated. You’ve probably accepted that your home is really their domain (they let us live with them, not the other way around – right?) and you know that their tempers are as fickle and unpredictable as the day is long. One minute they’re begging for cheek rubs and the next, they’re attacking your hand like it’s a bird they’re about to unceremoniously present you with after a venture outdoors.
Regardless of their ever-changing moods and unbearable haughtiness, we love our little kitties. Their stupid habits keep us entertained for days and the midnight zoomies make us want to pull our hair out, but hey – they’re family. If there’s one thing cats never keep us guessing about, though, it’s their obsession with certain toys. The same toys.
Our kitten’s favorite toy is a little grey mouse. There’s no catnip in it, its tail is missing, it only has one eye and there’s stuffing coming out, but she plays with it like it’s the greatest thing to grace God’s green earth.
Some cats have “comfort” toys like this. I think it happens when a toy has been around since birth – our kitten Bobie’s little mouse, for example, or our cat Leo’s little green wreath he came home from the shelter with, or our cat Murph’s white knit comfort blanket. These toys are irreplaceable, the crème de la crème, tried-and-true toys that they always know where to find, even if they hid it in the back corner under the bed a month ago.
But any good cat parent (or child-parent, for that matter) knows it’s cruel to only give your precious babe one toy. Obviously, nothing can replace your cat’s version of the little grey mouse, the green wreath, or the knit blanket – but you might be surprised at all the other toys your cats could fall in love with!

Our cats are OBSESSED with this! Cat teasers have offered us hours of entertainment, and are the biggest way we exhaust them before bedtime. When I’m tired of holding it for them, I’ll wedge it between some furniture or cabinets and let them bat it around from there.
PawHut Cat Exercise Wheel
Another great way to get the zoomies out! This cat exercise wheel is basically a cat-sized hamster wheel. As a bonus, if you have multiple cats, the others will be very entertained watching whoever’s running on the wheel!
PetSafe Bolt Interactive Laser Cat Toy
Throw in some batteries, press a button, set it on the floor, and this laser cat toy will entertain your fur babes for ages. Seriously. Plus, it has an auto-off function so I don’t have to worry about remembering to turn it off!
Frisco Butterfly Cat Tracks Cat Toy
This ball-and-track cat toy is one our cats return to time and time again. They simply love batting the balls around the tracks and attacking the butterfly – but the cutest thing is when they play with it together and bat the balls back and forth!
4-Way Collapsible Tunnel Cat Toy
Our cats ADORE playing in this cat tunnel. Whether they chase each other through it or hide from us as we’re chasing them around the house, they simply love it. It might take your cat a bit to get used to (if your fur babe is a scaredy-cat like mine), but once they do, you’ll be hard-pressed to get them out of it!
2 Pack Floppy Fish Cat Toy
My grandma bought this floppy fish toy for our cats last Christmas, and honestly, they weren’t sure what to do with it at first – but after some examination, they started attacking it like there was no tomorrow!
