Today, I headed out to Woodland Hills, CA, where I shopped for my first time at an Amazon Fresh grocery store. I had no idea what to expect, although I did have an idea of how it all worked based on some minor research I did prior to showing up. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy and, dare I say, fun the entire experience was.
First Impressions
When I arrived, I did not have the Amazon app downloaded on my phone. If you want to use the smart shopping carts, the app is necessary. It links your personal Amazon account to the cart you are using, making sure it charges you for your things through the app.
You can choose to also use a basic shopping cart and checkout as you would a typical grocery store, but if you’re there for the “Amazon experience” I would have the app downloaded and ready to go!
Once you have synced your cart to your personal account, the monitor will walk you through a quick tutorial on how to effectively use the cart. That way, you don’t feel confused or overwhelmed your first time there. It’s easy to use, but there are basically cameras in the front of the cart that scan your items as you load them into the cart.
Some items, such as produce, have specific stickers with codes that you type in, since a barcode on some items are simply impossible. Have a question? There were plenty of staff there to help answer any question you may have!
The Inside Was Surprising
I was pretty amazed at the variety of food choices they had to select from. From your everyday needs to ready-to-eat foods that they make in-house, such as sushi and pizza, you can find all you need at Amazon Fresh and more. There were plenty of employees around to ask for help if you needed it, but most of the employees were filling online orders.
When I had all of my items ready to check out, I simply rolled through an aisle that was designated for it, and it automatically calculated my total and charged it to my Amazon account. This made the process so easy and, best of all, cashless.
Final Thoughts
The staff was friendly and helpful, the store clean and following safety guidelines, and it was certainly an alternative way to grocery shop. I would definitely go back and shop there again!
