Whether you’re all about a capsule wardrobe or you’re looking for fresh pieces to add into your collection of wardrobe essentials, you’ve come to the right place! What I love about these 9 essentials is how interchangeable and easy they are to style, together and separately. When you think essentials, you might think “basics” but these pieces are far from that. Keep on reading to see what I mean!
Blouse
It’s always a great idea to have a blouse (or a few) on hand for the spring time. Having a well-fitted blouse is basically a fashion hack. You can team it with a pair of your favorite denims and voila! You have yourself a chic look that took 2 seconds to put together. What I love about blouses is that they never go out of style, so don’t shy away from trendier pieces.
Cropped Pants
Pants in cropped silhouettes are really on-trend this year, especially in looser, wide-fit or straight-cut silhouettes. I’ve been rocking cropped bottoms for as long as I can remember because I’m petite, so showing my ankles elongates my legs. This simple crop also makes it easy to wear any style of shoe! I especially love trousers in this relaxed silhouette — it makes the piece more versatile and transitional.
Spring Dress
I have a ton of spring dresses but the reason why I chose this one is because of the subtle, overall floral print and the slip silhouette. A slip dress is an essential all year round, but owning one in a brighter color makes it perfection for the spring time. Additionally, you can never go wrong with a midi wrap dress or a crisp, white shirt dress. The more ways you can style your spring dress, the better!
Lightweight Jacket
No surprise that a neutral blazer has made it onto the list of spring wardrobe essentials! Blazers are my lightweight jacket of choice because I enjoy a boxy, structured fit and they create a stylish contrast against many styles of clothing (slip dress, white tee, sweater, you name it!). Other lightweight jackets to rock this season include shackets, cropped leather jackets, utility jackets, and denim jackets. All these pieces are great to throw on during chillier spring days.
Cardigan
Admittedly, I own way more cardigans than I should but they’re literally one of my favorite staples for spring, summer, and fall. The styles have become more versatile, with cropped silhouettes doubling as tops too. My style tip is to opt for a piece like the one I’m wearing here — it incorporates a key trend (puff sleeves) with an embroidered trim that’s not too overwhelming in a fun, universal color. A relaxed fit that covers past your bum is also going to give you the most versatility. I’ve had this cardigan for years and I don’t see myself retiring this piece any time soon.
Satin Button-Down
A satin or silk button-down shirt is definitely on the list of spring essentials for a few reasons! The versatility of the silhouette allows you to dress it up or down, tucked in, knotted at the waist, or as an overshirt. The sheen makes it more elegant and formal, while the relaxed silhouette encapsulates the carefree vibes of spring time.
Midi Skirt
I’m a short gal so midi skirts sometimes borderline maxi skirts for me but I love it either way! Honestly pretty much any midi skirt style is appropriate for spring (A-line, pleated, floral, etc.) but my fave is a white linen piece. The light and airy look and feel of the skirt makes it a perfect pick for resort wear as well. It’s also very feminine so I like to pair it with edgier pieces and sharp silhouettes like a black bodysuit.
Layering Tee
There’s not much explanation needed here! Layering tees are always great to have on hand for casual styling all year round. I actually borrowed this white tee from my brother (don’t be afraid to shop menswear) and I love how lived in it looks paired with a cardigan and cropped jeans. A simple tee (in your color of choice) can be paired with any spring wardrobe essential on this list for an A+ outfit.
White Everyday Sneakers
A pair of white fashion sneakers are my favorite transitional shoe. I love the casual element they bring to my outfits. I’ve graduated from the chunky dad sneaker trend and have gone back to basics with classic designs like the Thousand Fell lace-up sneaker I’m wearing here. You can’t go wrong with this style because they’ll never go out of style! If you want to add a bit of spice, choose a pair with subtle contrast trimming.
Smart Loafers
I prefer a mule loafer over a traditional loafer style, but either one is going to be an essential for the spring and summer. They are my go-to’s if I want to achieve a refined, effortless look. I’ve opted for a loafer with a large chunky chain in a brown croc effect finish because I wanted a more statement loafer to contrast my other wardrobe essentials.
Thong Sandals
These are hands-down one of the most comfortable sandals I own! I highly recommend a pair similar to it as part of your sandal collection this spring and summer. For an essential pick, I would choose one with a very comfortable heel (definitely no more than 3 inches) in a neutral colorway with minimal trims. Since heeled sandals are pretty much a closet staple, you want a piece you can reach for every year so you’ll want to start with one that makes sense for everyday wear.
