Resort Wear 2021: What To Retire And What To Rock For Your Post-Covid Vacay

Thankfully the end of the pandemic seems near, and some of us might be looking forward to safely traveling again fairly soon in time for summer *fingers crossed*. Packing for my trips last year (or in 2019) was all about hitting each resort wear trend. But after spending much of 2020 at home, I have a different perspective on what I actually want to wear for my next vacation.

My 2021 resort wear selects are all about versatility that can be worn after my vacation, including some of my fave upcoming spring and summer trends. So here’s what to retire and what to rock instead!

What To Retire:

Raffia jewelry, prairie dresses, basket or woven bags, statement sleeves, one-shoulder tops, and bags or hats with sayings on them

Why?

When we think of resort wear, our minds immediately jump to raffia textures, basket or woven bags. As much as I love these pieces, they are so specific and only appropriate to wear on vacation or in the spring and summer. I have a hard time wearing these pieces appropriately for an everyday look sometimes. Other trends I am retiring are prairie dresses, bags or hats with sayings on them, and statement one-shoulder tops. We know fashion moves in a cycle so I have no doubt that these pieces will have their time again. Prairie dresses are still cute but can now feel a little dated as move towards more elevated, modern silhouettes.

What To Keep And Rock This Season:

Espadrilles, cutout dresses, straw hats, neutrals and fringe bags

Why?

Neutrals and espadrilles will never go out of style. You can wear them every day if you want. For espadrilles, you can opt for a more simple silhouette in a solid color so you’ll be able to reach for them every year, and they’re super comfy too. Neutrals (think white, beige, taupe, etc.) are timeless and white dresses are especially versatile all year round. You don’t need to only stick to white linen smock dresses for resort wear. Cutout dresses and fringe are more specific to 2021 spring trends, which I will gladly rock outside of my vacation. I also love how cut out dresses can be dressed up or down. Finally, straw hats are a vacation staple!
