The amount of sleep we get is vital for our health and well-being, so it is crucial that we get enough sleep so that we can function well. Most people, however, don’t know how much sleep they need or what kind of sleeping position will help them fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Being too hot or too cold can be a contribution to why you may be struggling to sleep or stay asleep at night. And I hate to be the one to break it to you, but the Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a record cold front this season.
Before we get into how to keep warm this winter, let’s start with how much sleep you need. The National Sleep Foundation recommends that adults get 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
That’s a long time to be shivering in bed, friends. No worries. Here are some great ideas on how you can keep warm and toasty in bed, so you can get a better night’s sleep.
Invest in Flannel Bed Sheets
UGG Flannel Sheet Set
UGG boots are known for being cozy and warm, so it’s no wonder that the brand decided to branch out into flannel bed sheets. One reviewer even called them “some of the best sheets I have purchased.”
Snuggle Under A Tufted Quilt
Target Velvet Tufted Stitch Quilt
Comforters are like little slices of clouds — in the summer, the stitching creates pockets of air to keep you cool. And somehow the opposite happens in the winter. Those same pockets create warm little hugs that keep you warm throughout the night.
Try An Electric Blanket
Sunbeam Heated Throw Blanket
There’s something classic about a fuzzy blanket, and this one by Sunbeam fits the bill. The warm fabric already offers comfort, but adding the electric component brings the bedding to a new level.
Plug In A Heating Pad
Quilted Sherpa Queen Electric Mattress Pad
There are heating pads, and then there are heated mattress pads. And then there are reversible heated mattress pads – this one has a quilted side and a fuzzy side, so you can flip your sleepscape as quick as the temperatures are about to drop.
Blow Warm Air Between The Sheets
Bed Jet 3 Climate Comfort For Bed
If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because the brand showcased their wares on Shark Tank. The device is one of those I-Can’t-Believe-No-One-Thought-About-This-Sooner gadgets. Use the included remote to deliver heat (or cool air) at the exact temp and intensity you desire.
Wear Warm And Cozy PJs
Women’s PJ’s Peanuts Long John Top In Organic Cotton
HA didn’t invent pajamas, but they sure as hell perfected ’em. Choose between dozens of sets — these tops and bottoms are sold separately, so you can mix and match and get a perfect size.
Grab A Hot Water Bottle
Mer-Sea & Co. Live Well, Be Well Plush Hot Water Bottle
As a kid, when I would visit my grandma’s house, she’d always fill up a hot water bottle for my feet at night. Hers was basically an antique – this ruddy red rubber thing. This hot water bottle takes it up a notch (or ten) with a soft, fuzzy cover.
Place A Heating Pad On Your Bed
Portable Blanket Warmer
Take the heat with you when you pack this portable blanket warmer. The device can also warm your shoes, a nice feature for frigid days.
Wear The Fuzziest Socks You Can Find
Nap Fuzzy Plush Socks
When it comes to sleep, Nap understands the assignment. These socks are comfy enough to wear with your regular outfits, but relaxed enough to wear while lounging or sleeping.
Sip A Hot Bevvie Before Bed
Thomas Keller K+M Bean-To-Cup Hot Chocolate
Thomas Keller of French Laundry, Napa Valley’s legendary restaurant, presents an ultra lush hot cocoa experience. Indulge in a velvety drink before bedtime to get (and stay) warm.
Soak In A Hot, Steamy Bath
Ouai Chill Pills Bath Bomb
Let the warm jasmine & rose water float you into la-la land. If these aren’t to your liking, try thisworks Deep Sleep Bath Soak, bath salts that can only be described as sinfully soothing.
Use A (Safe) Space Heater
Vornado – Vortex Electric Heater
I own Vornado – Vortex Electric Heater (in black), and let me tell you, it’s a game-changer. The Vornado automatically shuts off when tipped over, something I appreciate as the mum to two rambunctious fur babies.
