Fresh From The 2021 Grammys Red Carpet: The Fashion Hits And Misses

The big musical event was last night and the stars showered us with plenty of show-stopping performances and surprise wins. However, the red carpet fashion was sorely disappointing, to say the least.  I’ve broken down all my favorite looks, as well as the ones that were total fails. Do you agree with my take? Read on.

I’m so inspired by this look. It screams Grammys and it looks perfectly glam, regal, and contemporary. This rich deep plum velvet 2-piece tunic set is from Dundas, and she is wearing the hell out of it with the matching glasses and large jewels. There is a lot going on in this look from the hair to the accessories but it looks cohesive from head to toe.

I can’t pass up a stunning monochromatic pantsuit moment. I love the swooping rhinestone chains that complement the makeup, hairstyle, and suit perfectly. Although she’s baring plenty of skin, it still looks tasteful and glamorous.

I love seeing duos or musical groups getting dressed up for events like this because they get to match while rocking their own rendition of the night’s fashion theme. Chloe and Halle are a perfect example of this. The hair and makeup is ON POINT for both of them and I love how they took a maxi and mini twist on the same dress. The styling is creative, and I find Chloe’s look to be more daring. Also, gold and black together is always *chef’s kiss*.

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa wears a sexy pink number from Versace adorned in crystal mesh. The attention to detail of this dress is amazing and Dua looks stunning with her sleek, long black hair. She really let the dress shine with minimal jewelry but finished the look with a simple pair of matching rhinestone stilettos. I’m always impressed with Dua Lipa’s red carpet looks and this was no different.

I might be biased because I love Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak but I’m truly in love with the 70’s vibes they were serving all night! They both look so sharp and snazzy and they look like they’re having so much fun. Also I love a great pair of flared trousers!

Billie Eilish And Finneas

Billie and Finneas look like a fashionable pair in custom Gucci. We all know Billie’s red carpet aesthetic incorporates some sort of matching 2 or 3 piece set and her Grammys look was no different. Although her jacquard combo might look a little busy, I actually enjoyed how it was perfectly matched down to her fingertips and mask. She balanced the funky look with white sneakers. Finneas looks sharp and retro in his suit that compliments Billie’s pink and black look. I really love that he opted for a full pink suit.

The Fashion Fails

Doja Cat

Doja, Doja, Doja…what were you thinking with this? I’m such a fan of her music but this look? Not so much. This Roberto Cavalli look was a total fail in my book. I love a plunging neckline for the red carpet, but everything from head to toe looked so ill-fitting. Th exaggerated green feathers look absolutely awful paired with the motorcycle jacket inspired bodice. The proportions of the dress are so unflattering for her body and the mullet cheapened the bizarre look.

Lizzo

Both of Lizzo’s Balmain dresses were horrible. The shades of pink and green are so dated and the material reminds me of shiny cheap Barbie clothes. The green dress and the matching green shoes (oh God) scream awkward homecoming dance. Just no.

I’m not mad about the dress itself. I think it looks very flattering in a classic silhouette with a plunging sweetheart neckline and that shade of white looks rich and creamy. The draping is also a nice touch. But we have to talk about the crumpled up bed sheets she decided to carry around like a backpack. How much do they weigh? Can she lay on them like a bed? How does one remove them? So many questions.

I can’t decide whether or not I like this dress. It’s definitely not the worst of the bunch but there’s something about this Dolce & Gabbana number that looks cheap and underwhelming. Maybe the fabric looks too sheer and lightweight? Or perhaps it’s the color? I feel like the dress isn’t tailored to her body well enough and drapes in an unflattering way in some of the angles.

This is a bold statement but I think I might even hate this more than Doja Cat’s look. Their awfully dull matching looks are by Prada. A commenter said “they look like dental assistants from the future” and I think that’s a major compliment for these looks.
