Here’s How To Get Serious About Your Health, Because You Are Your Top Priority

Whether you’re 20, 35, or 55, it’s easy to get swept up in everything that life demands of you. While this certainly keeps you busy, it also means you might forget to focus on yourself, especially when it comes to your health and self care.

With so much to do, you might feel you don’t have the time, energy, or patience to look after number one, but this could cause severe problems later in your life. With that in mind, here are a few ways to get over the fear of looking after yourself and take control of your life.

Quit Ignoring Possible Problems

Often, it’s easier to ignore possible health problems rather than face them head-on. You have too much to worry about already without going to the doctor to get that lump or mole checked out. Or, there isn’t a free block in your schedule to get the answer to that stinging pain in your throat. However, while it’s more convenient to ignore everything, ignoring is a huge detriment to your health.

You need to face the fact that ignoring possible problems means they could get out of hand, and you don’t want to wait too long for the problem to become untreatable. So, book appointments and checkups and do some research! For example, if you want to improve your oral health you could look at products like Invisalign or even just make a commitment to everyday flossing. Stop putting things off!

Speak To A Medical Professional

You might avoid looking after your health because speaking to a doctor or dentist is intimidating. However, these people are specifically trained to offer all the advice you need to get healthy and take better care of yourself.

If you’re struggling with being able to lose weight or high blood pressure, a doctor can recommend different ways to stay active at home. If you’re having episodes that make it impossible to get out of bed, a therapist can offer coping techniques that will make things easier to deal with. You won’t know how to look after yourself unless you reach out and ask for help, so don’t be afraid to do so.

Find A Health Buddy

Being there for friends and family is something everyone tries to do, even if life gets in the way. If you find a health accountability buddy and regularly check in on one another, this can help motivate you to take better care of yourself.

If you struggle to go to the gym or work out, a health buddy helps you to be accountable for yourself. If you want to kick bad habits, such as bingeing on sugary snacks, smoking, or drinking, then working with a health buddy will make you feel less alone. The extra support will help you overcome challenges you face on your health journey, and can prevent you from faltering along the way.

As Always, Keep Up That Self Care!

Self care is much more than soaking in the bathtub and treating yourself to a spa day (though yes, I absolutely indulge in those on the regular). But it’s time to go deeper than this and think about your physical and mental well-being. Even if you feel you don’t have the time to take care of yourself, you probably do — find it! If you need some help, find a trusted friend or counselor to help you come up with a self care plan to get your body, mind, and soul health back on track. You can do this!
