Is going to the gym still not an option? Maybe your local gym is still closed or you don’t want to work out with a mask on. Plus, who has time to drive to the gym anyway? Working out from home is way more convenient and time-saving.
If you need to spruce up your home gym or refresh some of the home gym equipment basics, you’re in the right place! Today we’re talking compact home gym essentials. Keep scrolling to read about our picks!
Yoga Mat/Floor Mat
You might have this already, but if you don’t, time to get one (or several!). Yoga mats aren’t just for yoga — you can use them for any workout where you need a bit of padding or a non-slip surface. You could also opt for a larger floor mat if you need a bit more square footage!
Free Weights
I love free weights because it’s so easy to just memorize a couple free weight exercises and lift in front of the TV or during a quick work break if you work from home. Make sure you get adjustable weights or a set, though — you want to have some choices when it comes to how much you’re lifting!
Resistance Bands
Resistance bands are some of the most versatile compact home gym pieces, and you need to get them ASAP. They’ll seriously amp up your body weight workouts, they’re tiny (so you can keep them literally anywhere) and they’re not expensive at all!
Exercise Ball
Sure, exercise balls can be a little bulky, but mine has a double use — I also use it as a work chair! You can do a ton of awesome core workouts on exercise balls, and they’re for sure a compact home gym staple.
Pull-up Bar
Okay, I’ll admit it — I’ve always hated doing pull-ups and I have zero upper body strength. Never have. But for a few years during college I lived in a house with guys, and they looooved their over-the-door pull-up bar. They had a rule where they had to do a certain amount of pull-ups every time they went into or out of the doorway the bar was in. Talk about compact, convenient workout equipment!
