Are you looking to eliminate dairy from your diet for health reasons, environmental concerns, or an allergy? In the last few years, it seems like dairy-free products have exploded onto the market and turned mainstream grocery stores into health food centers. But how can you tell what’s good and what will disappoint? We’ve tested some of the newest dairy alternative brands to find the best-tasting milk alternative — here are our thoughts:
Mooala Milk

Mooala is an organic and dairy-free company that makes milk alternatives. The most unique one they make (in my opinion) is their Banana Milk. I know what you’re thinking: Banana? Milk? How is that possible? Well, I’m here to tell you, it’s entirely possible, and it is amazing! It’s not just a plain banana flavor they offer, either, they also have chocolate-banana and strawberry-banana. Yum. The plain banana milk tastes exactly like banana bread but it’s nut free, which is a plus if you have a nut allergy. I love using this in smoothies, my morning iced coffee, and even in my cereal.
Another notable mention for Mooala is their keto mylk that comes in original, cinnamon roll, vanilla creme, and chocolate chip cookie flavors. I don’t know about you, but my mouth is watering. If you want to track down some of these ‘milks,’ you can use their online tracker to see what stores near you carry this brand. If there isn’t a store near you, don’t worry, you can order directly from their website!
Califia Farms

I’m not usually into the taste of almond milk, but as soon as I saw a toasted coconut flavor, I knew I had to give it a try! Califia Farms really knew what they were doing with this milk. It’s a blend of almond milk and real coconut cream that only has 10 ingredients! It’s simple but packs a punch with so much flavor. My favorite thing about this milk is that it has no sugar but still tastes sweet. I recently switched from oat milk to this and I already know I’m never going back.
Joi Hazelnut Coffee Creamer Substitute

I was sent a trial of Joi’s creamer substitute to test out. It’s packaged in a cylindrical jar and has the consistency of peanut butter with oil. You add it to water, blend, and refrigerate, and it lasts for a week. I found the texture and thickness pretty good (I used the higher end amount of base they recommend), but to me, as someone who is used to overly sweet artificial creamers, it was a little bland. I’ve been trying to kick my grocery store flavored sweetener habit for a while, though, so this might be a good option for me.
Ripple Chocolate Milk

I have only tried the chocolate milk version from this brand, which is pea protein based. It was probably one of the best dairy alternatives I’ve ever had. Maybe because the chocolatey-ness masks any strange non dairy aftertaste that seems typical of dairy alternatives. The texture is super milk-like and the taste is delicious. I would drink this and not feel like I’m missing anything!
Harmless Harvest Coconut Yogurt

This is the best dairy-free yogurt I’ve tried! The Thai coconut they use gives it a nice texture and it’s lower in sugar than some of the other dairy-free yogurt brands. The strawberry flavor is my fave, but this is a brand even kids will eat up. It is a bit thinner than Greek yogurt, if that’s what you’ve been eating, so the texture is more Yoplait-ish.
Country Crock Plant Cream

If you like to cook at home and are looking for an alternative to heavy cream, this is it. It’s a 1:1 substitution. Country Crock’s plant base is lentils, which, to me, seems crazy, but somehow it cooks up perfectly like cream for use in sauces, soups, and desserts. You can even whisk it into whipped cream for dessert topping. It’s truly magical stuff.
Earth Balance Butter Alternative

This is a really good replacement for butter if you’re looking to spread it on toast, and it even works well for baking and cooking. My favorite version is the European style — it spreads really nicely, tastes just like butter, in my opinion, and is really equivalent to margarine in recipes.
Good Karma Plant Milk

Confession: I haven’t tried Good Karma’s plant milk yet, but it’s next on my list. It’s a combination of flax seed, pea milk, and oat milk, which makes it a really great substitute for people with allergies to dairy and nuts. I’ve seen mixed reviews on this product line, so if you’ve tried it, let us know what you think.
