Welcome to wedding season! Whether you’re getting married, about to be engaged, or simply want to know everything about wedding planning, we’re here to tackle one of the most exciting parts of the process: the registry. And since Mother Earth is always at the forefront of our minds, we figured, why not create a sustainable wedding registry?
I got engaged a few weeks ago, but I started planning and researching for my wedding in December. I am a type-A bride. While there are some elements of wedding planning I’m putting off until the last minute (flowers cost how much?!), one of my favorite things has been working on the registry.
I started crafting my wedding registry about a month ago and I continuously do research on it. While you don’t necessarily need to finish your registry until eight months before the wedding, I like to get ahead on as much of the planning process as possible.
One thing that was really important to me, when looking for items to add to my registry, is sustainability. While we will be using and registering for some easy and cheap things, I also want to start our married life as green as possible. Also, the point of a registry is so that you don’t have to go out and buy all these annoying little home-building things. And thankfully, sustainable and reusable items often eliminate the multiple trips to the grocery store to do just that.
So, here’s everything we’re putting on our sustainable wedding registry!
Silicone Baking Mat
I have two of these and we will be asking for more. These silicone baking mats are my favorite thing because I never have to get tin foil or baking parchment from the store ever again. I bake cookies, pizza, meringues, bread, and everything else on these mats and they have changed the way I bake.
Wool Dryer Balls
If you’ve never used wool dryer balls, you’re missing out. We’re registering for these because they’re reusable, plastic-free, 100% natural, hypo-allergenic, and also cut down on your clothes’ drying time. We also can register for these and cross dryer sheets off our list for the rest of our lives, saving us time, energy, waste, and money that would be spent going out to the store once every few months.
Reusable Makeup Remover Pads
If you’re like me, you go through so many packs of cotton pads every year. From nail polish remover to toner, I use a cotton pad roughly twice a day at least. These little reusable makeup remover pads will eliminate over half of that waste. They come in an eco-friendly box and have a laundry bag with them so you can just pop them in the laundry when you’re done!
Microfiber Cleaning Cloths
My house is always out of paper towels. While you might think that buying a pack of paper towels every time you’re at the store is a necessary evil, I’m going to eliminate that purchase as soon as possible. These microfiber cloths are perfect for wiping up messes, cleaning surfaces, and drying dishes. They come in packs of 12, 25, 50, 100, and 150 depending on how big (and messy) your household is. These are one of my favorite items I’m registering for, and I’m so excited to eliminate paper towels from my monthly bill.
Reusable K-Cups
My fiancé and I are both avid coffee drinkers, and a box of K-cups would last us a week, maximum. We’re registering for these reusable K-cups because, for some reason, K-cups are way more expensive than just buying a bag of coffee. I also like to drink loose-leaf tea at night, so these are perfect for that as well!
Reusable Chopsticks
Every Wednesday night is sushi night in this house (it’s also when Kroger has the best deal on sushi, just so you know). But every time we go out to get sushi, without fail, I forget to grab the little bamboo chopsticks. These fiberglass chopsticks are reusable, elegant, and dishwasher safe. Because we value our sushi date nights so much, I know this will only add to them.
Food Huggers
I waste so much plastic wrap, Ziplock bags, and food storage trying to keep a sliced fruit or vegetable fresh, so I’m excited about these food huggers. The round silicone sleeves are designed to ‘hug’ your produce and keep it fresher longer. They also come in such cute colors – I’m excited about these!
Bee’s Wrap
Another huge item we want to eliminate from our grocery list is plastic wrap. While I love tupperware and often use it, sometimes, you just need to cover an open dish. These beeswax wraps are a perfect sustainable switch. Simply cover your food with them, wash them when you’re done, and reuse them any chance you get!
