Are you going to be single on Valentine’s Day? Yeah, same.
While everyone around me seems to have found love, I’m the movie-trope-single-friend. And as Valentine’s Day comes around, I’m already preparing to see cutesy Instagram posts and sappy rom-coms from Hallmark. Ugh.
So, this year, I’ve decided to celebrate the love I have for myself. I’m talking every self-care item out there, tailoring every cliché to my own wants, and taking back the stereotype of being broken-hearted and single on Valentine’s Day. Here’s how.
Put together a singles playlist to dance to.
Slow songs to dance to…alone? Nah, we’re not doing that this year. Choose songs that pump you up. Single Ladies by Beyoncé? A classic. I Will Survive? You’re a strong, independent woman who’s fine on her own. Own your power.
Draw a bath.
I’m talking bubbles and bath bombs, music in the background, and a towel wadded up behind your neck so you can soak your body in total relaxation. Play relaxing music or white noise in the bathroom to drown out any other noises – this is about you.
Spa it up.
Once you’re out of the bath, take your time getting out and getting settled. Rub that lavender lotion on every part of your body, take time to brush your hair, lounge in your bath robe…anything that makes you feel like you’re living the height of luxury.
Set the mood.
After you’ve danced it out to your pumped-up playlist, slow it down as the night comes to an end. Dim the lights, light some candles, put on that face mask, and play The Weeknd. Make yourself feel sexy – however you do it. Tonight is about what you want. That means no compromises.
Curl up with your favorite show.
Whether it’s a movie about harnessing your inner badass (Legally Blonde, anyone?), a true crime documentary, or a classic favorite like Love Is Blind, watch whatever will make you feel good about yourself. Feeling feisty? Find something you can be sarcastic about – The Bachelor is a great place to start.
How are you treating yourself on Valentine’s Day? Let us know in the comments!
