best vegan meat
Happy Meatless Monday! Gone are the days that all vegan meat substitutes taste hard and unlike meat at all. If you’re wanting to take Meatless Monday more seriously, or maybe even start introducing meatless meals into the rest of your week, this list is for you. While we’ve all heard of tofu before, the meat substitute market has been booming lately and has plenty of new substitutes for you to try. Here are some of our favorite options.
Impossible Burger is plant-based and gluten-free, and it is one of the newest and most popular meat substitutes. It is known for having an almost identical taste to real cow beef. If you’ve had a hard time because you miss the real tastes of meat, this might be for you. But if you’re not a fan of your substitute meat tasting too realistic, this might be one to avoid.
Beyond Beef is plant-based, gluten-free, and unlike Impossible Burger, is Non-GMO. Beyond Beef is also made without soy, which has otherwise been one of the main staples of vegan food. The Beyond Meat brand also has faux pork products in the form of sausages.
Jackfruit is great at imitating pulled pork which is usually missing in the vegan meat market. The jackfruit used to substitute meat is the unripe jackfruit, which can usually be bought canned, making it affordable for anyone. One negative is that jackfruit isn’t a great source of protein like other substitutes are, so it shouldn’t be used for the majority of your meatless meals.
Gardein has so many different substitute chicken flavors. They offer tenders, sliders, orange chicken, teriyaki, and more. This option is Non-GMO and plant-based. For a frozen option, Gardein has great reviews and is a simple and quick meat substitute when you don’t have time to cook a full meal.
If sandwiches are a huge part of your diet, vegan sliced meat will be a necessity. This Tofurky is hickory smoked and perfect for your club sub. Reviews on Target’s website rave about the flavor. These deli slices are also plant-based and Non-GMO. Yum!
These are only a few of the amazing meat substitutes out right now — what others have you tried out? Let us know below!
