But if you’re like me, with hyperpigmentation from acne, surgery scars, or psoriasis, then kojic acid — found naturally in wild mushrooms and soy sauce, among other things — may be the missing ingredient that your skin needs. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite skincare products containing kojic acid, and not a moment too soon.
Kojic acid not only prevents and treats hyperpigmentation, but it also provides some protection from UV damage. Now that summer is in full swing and you’ve already got sunscreen in your daily routine, add some kojic acid for a little boost during your poolside lounging or beach trips.
