I see “1214” when I look at the clock multiple times a week. 12/14 is my birthday, and I’ve always loved the coincidence.

Turns out, there may be some deeper meaning.

I’d never heard of “angel numbers,” but it turns out that this form of numerology has become increasingly prevalent in modern day spirituality. Is 1214 my angel number? Could 1214 even be an angel number, or were there specifications? If you’re wondering the same thing, I have the 411 for you — no number-pun intended.

What Are Angel Numbers?

While there are common sequences, usually repetitive numbers — like 111, or 333 — angel numbers are meaningful numbers that are easily recognizable. Recognizable doesn’t mean it’s as simple as 111 or as obvious as your birthday (my 1214). You may notice that the number 12 shows up in random places, or your lucky number 4 is just that: lucky. They’re not 333, but they’re significant enough to pay attention to. (It’s important to note that angel numbers can change — more on that later.)

Angel numbers are a form of numerology, which follows the idea that numbers have vibrational energy, with a deeper significance than their numeric values. “One” doesn’t indicate something as singular — it is adventure, confidence, and innovation. It’s a natural-born leader. One doesn’t mean something in numerology — it is something.

So, then, what are angel numbers? They are trying to get your attention, and the numbers they send have meanings.”

How Do I Know What My Angel Number Is?

There are plenty of online calculators that can perform various functions to come up with your angel number. But calculators and mathematics can’t determine which numbers are significant to you, numbers that are at the core of your spirituality.

To identify your angel number, you’ll have to begin paying attention to the numbers you encounter on a regular basis. Only then will you see patterns, sequences, and/or numbers that repeatedly show themselves as you go about your day. It requires thoughtfulness, and with enough awareness, you’ll notice what numbers regularly pop up.

You may also feel something when you see certain numbers, and it’s important to note this. “Take note of how you feel in your body,” says spiritual advisor Diana Zalucky. “It doesn’t lie.” If you see a number and it doesn’t feel right — or if you feel nothing at all — it’s probably not your angel number. “Think of [an angel number] like a little marker saying that you are on the right direction in life, like a highway sign,” says Michaela. If you see your angel number, you’ll know.

Changing Numbers

Remember how I said your number may change? That’s because different numbers have different significance — and angels may have different messages for you throughout your lifetime. “Angel numbers can change according to the guided messages they are trying to deliver to you. If the same numbers keep on appearing time and time again, then until this message is received the numbers will be repeated,” explains England-based psychic medium Shawn Stone.

What To Do When You Recognize An Angel Number

If you realize that you’ve uncovered an angel number, you may be wondering “What the hell do I do with this?”

The answer: pause, relax, and reflect. Numbers’ energies will guide you to the significance of the sequence.

“You will be surprised how easily the answer comes to you,” Zalucky says. “Many don’t trust their own [intuition] because they believe it can’t be that easy.” Luckily, it is that easy, because you know yourself best. Messages are up to interpretation, but trust that you’ll interpret them just as the angels intended. It all comes back to your spirituality; trust in that, and you’ll know the answer.

Common Sequences

If you keep seeing a repeating number sequence, it means the angels are trying to get your attention! Common sequences indicate specific messages, though your situation will make the angel number unique to you. In general, though, these are the meanings behind the most common sequences:

Chase opportunities down. 000 is a message that the universe is offering you infinite roads to success — all you have to do is hunker down, keep your mind open, and practice self-awareness. 000 may indicate success, but that success starts with you.

Trust yourself, and trust that the path you’re on is the right one. 1 is a powerful number — there’s a reason we make wishes at 11:11. Take 111 as a message from your angel that you are exactly where you’re supposed to be, and that any goals and ambitions will happen so long as you keep your head down and grind.

Let go. That’s what 222 is telling you. You are about to manifest your ambitions, and your angels will be with you the entire time. Hold your head high, and remember that the universe will help things to fall into their proper place. You’re okay, promise.

333

If you’ve been going back and forth with a decision, it’s time to make up your mind and accept what comes. 333 tells you that it’s time to move past this conundrum, upward and onward to better things. And that hesitance? While understandable, it only held you back.

444

444 is an interesting one. While it can indicate that you are near the finish line of whatever current goal you have, it can also — or perhaps, at the same time — signify that you are grounded in your spirituality, close to the angels. Either way, you are about to experience success — the angels are making sure of it.

Are you stuck in the eye of the storm? Don’t worry: the angels are heading to you as I type this. Any negative spiritual energy will dissipate soon, because the angels can tell you need them. Get ready to be surrounded by nothing but warmth.

It’s associated with the Devil, but 666 is all about love. Whether it’s meeting the love of your life, spending time with friends and family, or discovering self-love, 666 brings nothing but positive, happy, fuzzy feelings.

Angel numbers are never meant to scare. Angels always intend to guide you, even if it feels a little pushy at times (come on, you’ve seen 777 twice today, isn’t that enough!?). They can be warnings or blessings, but always remember that it’s guidance, helping you to prepare for what the universe is bringing.
