Hair Masks Were the Best Answer for My Dry, Damaged Hair – Are They Yours?

Featured Image Source

I’ve talked about how damaged my hair is. When I bleached it a few (that’s an understatement) times to reach platinum status, my hair was like rubber bands – being stretched and pulled out after each shower. It was a nightmare.

I ended up driving to Sally’s and collecting multiple hair masks to try and stop the damage. And guess what: they worked. My strands ended up coming together again, to the point where I could brush them out without pulling out my thirsty blonde locks. Here are some products that worked for me, and other masks to try for your own hair.

Best for Over-Processed HairTwo Step Protein Treatment & Balanced Moisturizer

When I walked in to heal my poor hair, the clerk directed me to this mask, promising that it would save it. And she was right – the two-step treatment was a miracle.

To start, the Balancing Moisturizer is a blend of collagen amino acids and herbal extracts (like sage and rosemary), protecting and strengthening the ends of hair. Simply massage it into your hair post-shampoo and rinse. Next, the Protein Treatment. Featuring magnesium and amino acids, the ingredients work to lock in moisture with heat, therefore reducing breakage. I can’t recommend this mask enough for fried hair.

Best for Dry Hair: Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Hair Mask

After my blonde hair strengthened, I began using this mask. I’ve used it as a hair mask to rinse out, as well as a hair mask to leave on strands post-wash to avoid breakage. Shea butter is mixed with coconut oil and macadamia oil, which result in major hydration and softening. 10/10, highly recommended.

Best for Dry Scalps: Tea Tree Hair and Scalp Treatment

A friend recommended this mask to me when I was having issues with a dry scalp, and let me tell you: all itchiness and dryness went away after a few uses. Soy proteins, shea butter, and vitamin E revitalize hair, while willow bark works to transform your scalp from flaky to fabulous. The tea tree, peppermint, and lavender scent is just a bonus.

Best for Colored Hair: Pureology Hydrate Superfood Treatment Hair Mask

I used to dye my hair all types of fun shades – purple, blue, red, pink, every color. But with every wash, the color faded…and faded…until this mask. Sunflower seed and vitamin E fight color loss, and the lack of sulfates means you’ll retain the oils needed to keep your colored hair soft, shiny, and nourished.

If you’re looking for a mask specifically for curly hair, then this argan oil mask is the one for you. Don’t believe me? The 4.5 stars don’t lie. Preventing breakage is its strength, but the addition of caffeine and ginseng leads to ultimate conditioning and enhancement of your natural curls.
