Obsessed with The Cranberries? Same. Dolores O’Riordan was a force to be reckoned with, and who can get “Zombie” out of their heads? (Not me. A+ karaoke song.) If you’re looking for artists who modernize The Cranberries’ alternative sound, take a listen to these artists!

Phoebe Bridgers

With the release of her 2020 album “Punisher,” Phoebe Bridgers has been on the up-and-up. Her music is described as indie-rock and her album is very moody and relaxing to listen to. If you’re wondering what artist on this list will quickly become mainstream — this is her.

The Japanese House

Thanks to Matty Healy (of The 1975), The Japanese House — made up of the one and only Amber Mary Bain —  has grown exponentially since 2012. In August of 2020, she released the dream-pop EP “Chewing Cotton Wool” to positive reviews. Safe to say, Bain has grown from a 1975 discovery into their own artist.

Mitski

I hadn’t heard of Mitski until recently, but I was so glad a friend of mine had recommended her music. It is raw and real and her album “Be The Cowboy” will definitely be the one I’ll listen to as I drive around the city with the windows down. Mitski has a unique voice and singing style that will make her stand out for years to come.

Sylvan Esso

Cold coffee? Check. Sylvan Esso — aka Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn — has been around for a while, but they’re slowly growing into a band to watch in 2021. If you’re looking for feel-good music, you’ll find it here. And their music videos? Chef’s kiss.

FLETCHER

Looking for some alt-pop to help you through that bitter breakup? Check out FLETCHER. The artist’s unique take on the alt genre, mixed with brutally honest lyrics, is refreshing to anyone trying to find a relevant song for their heartbreak.

WRENN

WRENN has been releasing music since 2016, but only recently has she been on the rise. After writing “Hailey,” a tune about her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend, the song got popular on TikTok. I think she’s an underrated artist to look out for.
