Can y’all believe it’s already September?! We’re officially 3 months away from the end of the year and about 2 weeks away from the start of fall (September 22nd). In the spirit of fall, let’s talk FALL FASHION.
As someone who loves layering and outerwear, fall is probably my favorite season to dress for, and admittedly I don’t own a trench coat (yet) but I will after this. Not only is this staple outerwear French girl chic, it’s equal parts versatile, stylish, and practical. It makes fall styling so easy and it’s an investment that’s worth every penny. We break down our favorite trench coat outfits so you can get the look.
COVID-19 Chic
If COVID-19 was an outfit, it would be a sweater and a pair of lounge pants. No need to stress about what to wear on a chilly fall day. You can roll out of bed and throw on a trench coat, a pair of hoops, your favorite sneakers, and a bag of your choice and voila… you have a model-off-duty look.
Style Tip: Opt for a longline, oversized trench coat to balance the loungewear for a refined, “I woke up like this” look.

Summer to Fall
Bring your summer dresses with you into fall by following a few key transitional style tips. Wear your summer dresses with thin layers under, along with a cotton trench coat to offer a softer hand and drapability. Accessorize with traditionally autumn colors (wine, maroon, forest green, etc.) and complete the look with sneakers or knee high boots.
Style Tip: Playing with the length of the trench coat and dress will bring interest to the outfit (mini dress with longline coat and vice versa).

Mix Up the Patterns
A trench coat with a patterned lining is a fun and unexpected element to bring to an outfit. For an even bolder look, wear it with a patterned 2-piece set. Animal prints are *still* trending going into the colder months, but cheetah and snakeskin prints are so last year. Opt for zebra and cow prints instead.
Style Tip: You can’t go wrong with a patterned trench coat moment. Keep it chic with plaid or color and pattern blocking. If you rock a patterned trench coat, keep the palette of the rest of your outfit more neutral and minimal. Accessorize with an accent color and timeless jewelry and bring interest through textures rather than color or patterns.

Make it Professional
A trench coat can elevate any outfit to a business professional look, especially if it’s fabricated with a heavier duty fabric like twill or wool. Rock this with a tailored jumpsuit and pumps in an accent color to bring a youthful element to the outfit. A very simple look but extremely refined and elegant.
Style Tip: For a softer, less structured look, opt for a trench coat fabricated in suede. It’s all about the fabrication.
