I have been blessed enough in my life to be able to try all different types of skincare routines, beauty and makeup lines, and all the latest hair treatments and gadgets. I have drawers and drawers of products in my vanity (and, yes, in my Caboodles case). So as I reached in my bag the other day for one of my old standbys, I thought about the products I have in my “arsenal” that have really stood the test of time. There are a handful of products that I started using in middle school and STILL buy regularly today. Over 30 years of loyalty is the hands down best review ever, right?
Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers
Ok, hear me out. I’m not a fan of Dr. Pepper and I don’t drink soda BUT this amazing and cheap little tube of chapstick is the perfect shade for natural-looking lips. My natural lips are literally GRAY (thanks, God) so I can’t go anywhere without some lip tint. This is hydrating and offers the perfect touch of color. I have a tube in every single purse I own.
Maybelline Great Lash in Blackest Black
Along with my gray lips, I was blessed with sparse blonde lashes, so mascara is a necessity. This iconic pink and green tube has been around for over 40 years and that’s quite an accomplishment. I’ve found mascaras I like better, but this one is such a standby for me that I always keep some in my makeup kit.
Caboodles
Speaking of makeup kits, the Caboodles case holds its own. When these came out in 1987, everyone went crazy. You could just easily carry your makeup routine with you on sleepovers and for pregame prep with the girls like a girly little tackle box. It was revolutionary. Of course, they may have started the trend and there are now a ton of makeup cases on the market, but I still love the fun colors and practical design of the original.
V05 Hot Oil
If you know, you know. If not, you should. This V05 hot oil hair treatment has been around since my birth year, 1976 (it was a very good year) and is still in high demand today. I’ve been using it since the late 80’s on my baby fine locks and I still swear by it. It’s cheap, effective, color safe, paraben free, and leaves my hair silky and soft and as shiny as color-treated blonde hair can get. It was briefly discontinued in 2018 and the world lost its collective mind, so it was immediately brought back, now with coconut oil (of course!). Y’all can keep your pricey Olaplex, I’ll be using my V05 every week please and thank you.
Essie Nail Polish in Blanc
This was one of the original colors in Essie’s first launch. I used it all through middle school and high school to create a french manicure look at home. It is still one of their most popular colors and is great as a base coat for brighter colors to make them really pop and is also fabulous on its own as the perfect white. It doesn’t peel or yellow the way many white polishes can.
