We’ve all had that moment in summer when it feels like our foundation is going to slide off. Or upon seeing a thunderstorm, knowing your eyeliner is going to run. Fear no more: here is how to face every weather-related beauty disaster and come out the other side with a perfect face of makeup.
Makeup Tips for the Heat
The warmer months are coming sooner than you think. But how can you combat that sweaty-makeup look? How can you ensure your foundation won’t slide off as soon as you put it on? Well, there are a couple things you can do: you can either change your approach to applying makeup, OR you can make alterations to your environment.
Applying thinner layers of foundation and concealer will help keep your look together. Often, in the summer months, our complexions improve, so there is less need for full coverage. However, if you find yourself needing to wear a lot of makeup, finding a perfect setting powder or spray will be necessary. For a budget option, we love NYX’s setting sprays (available in dewy or matte finishes). We also love Morphe Setting Spray — it’s a mist with super even coverage — as well as Urban Decay’s All Nighter, and this translucent powder from Becca.
In terms of environment, making sure your workplace or home has good air conditioning and access to 24 hour AC repair will ensure you are kept cool — and that means your makeup will stay on all day!
Makeup Tips for the Rain
When it comes to rainy weather, your best friend is waterproof makeup – especially waterproof eye makeup. We’re talking waterproof mascara (Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara is amazeballs), and waterproof eyeliner (Stila Stay All Day, anyone?).
There are some great videos out there of people testing waterproof makeup to the extreme, just to find out which one is best. It’s a good idea to check out some of these videos before deciding which waterproof makeup products to go with. You can start with this one below!
Makeup Tips for the Snow
Snow and similarly icy weather will take all the moisture out of your skin. This is why, when wearing makeup in snowy weather, your makeup can sometimes crack. As your skin becomes dry, your makeup dries out alongside it.
This is why, to combat bad makeup in snowy weather, you need to focus both on skincare and makeup. Make sure to moisturize daily to keep your skin out of harm’s way. Also, you need to use lip balm pretty much all the time. Dry and flaky lips can make lip products sit strangely.
When it comes to makeup products, look for ‘moisturizing’ on their labels. A breathable, moisturizing foundation or lipstick will help you out in the icy weather!
Makeup Tips for the Wind
We’ve all had the awful feeling of your hair getting stuck in your lipgloss. On a windy day, it seems almost impossible to avoid.
There are several ways to combat this. For one, some companies have started to produce lip glosses that don’t let hair stick to them. Look at some reviews before buying them, as some don’t quite stack up against powerful wind.
Alternatively, you could work on your hair to make sure it doesn’t fly all about in the wind. You could use hairspray, hair gel or get to grips with some tight updos!
These tips should ensure your makeup stays fresh and fabulous no matter what the weather throws at you! Do you have any other weather-related makeup tips? Let us know in the comments below!
