At first mention, CW’s Superman & Lois sounds like a concept that’s been done to death. So far, 11 actors have played Superman on the Big Screen or via cartoon. And, where Superman/Clark Kent ventures, Lois is rarely far behind. Starring Tyler Hoechlin (from Teen Wolf) and Elizabeth Tulloch (from Grimm), this critically acclaimed American superhero drama television series turns everything we know about Superman & Lois mythology on its head.
It’s not just one crisis that has upended their lives. In fact, Superman seems all too ordinary when he loses his job, faces the death of his mother, and deals with the challenges of balancing home (raising two teenage boys) and his work (saving the world). Meanwhile, Lois holds together what’s left of their fracturing personal and professional lives. And, then, she gives up her career and professional life for her family and her principles.

The plot is quickly complicated when the twins – sports-hero Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and troubled Jordan (Alexander Garfin) — show early signs that they may have inherited powers from their Krypton bloodline. Combine hormonal teens and some superhuman juice, and you’ve got a recipe for chaos, even before you factor in the reverse mortgages, bullies, inexplicable supervillains, meddling in-laws, complicated teen romance, and explosive human experimentation.

Lois has always been a personal favorite of mine, even though she often seems like little more than a Silver-Screen afterthought, meant to humanize the Man of Steel. Although the plot of Superman & Lois is still in development, I’m loving the new Lois and I can’t wait to see what happens in the final episodes of this season. Tulloch’s role as the ever-enigmatic Juliet/Eve gives her even more of an edge, which makes her Lois role that much more fascinating and unforgettable.
I know everyone is losing their mind over the Fleischer suit and Tyler as Clark but why am I not seeing anyone talking about Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois? She’s absolutely killing it and deserves a ton of praise for this

Lois’s actions and words remind us all that we must do what we can with what we have, even if we don’t have superhuman abilities. And that sentiment is further reiterated when we learn how Martha Kent, the mother of Clark Kent aka Superman, tirelessly cared for all the other struggling families in Smallville. She is a town hero, not because she was able to swoop down from the sky, but because she was present. She listened. She cared. And she gave whatever she could to help her neighbors.

This is the perfect time for THIS Lois and THIS Clark Kent, as we balance work and home, struggle to survive, and bring ourselves to hope for a better/brighter future. If that’s all the show gives us, it’s enough. But, then…you should know that the season finale airs on May 18th, and it’s entitled “Broken Trust.” Can we bear any more, and what will the future hold for the Kent family in the just-renewed Season 2?
