Confession: I didn’t like seafood at all growing up. I was a very picky eater. My go-to literally everywhere was chicken nuggets and french fries. If my parents are reading this right now, they’re nodding their heads in agreement, and are probably about to text me about it.
But they’d also agree that I’m a picky eater no more! I actually love trying different foods now, and making new recipes is one of my favorite things. Seafood still isn’t my go-to choice pretty much ever, but I have a soft spot for shrimp, which I prefer in appetizer form and served alongside some melted butter and a cold beer.
I’ve never had bang bang shrimp before, though (I know, I know, hush). But as a huge fan of literally anything crispy and at least quasi-fried, I knew I had to try it. A quick Google search and grocery trip later and I was ready to embark on a culinary adventure…that ended up being surprisingly easy, and unsurprisingly delicious.

Bang Bang Shrimp
Thanks to Delish for this recipe!
Ingredients
For the Shrimp:
-
2 cups of panko bread crumbs
-
2 Tbsp of extra-virgin olive oil
-
1 tsp of garlic powder
-
Kosher salt
-
Freshly ground black pepper
-
2 large eggs
-
1 cup of all-purpose flour
-
1 lb of raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
-
Freshly chopped cilantro
For the Bang Bang Sauce:
-
2 Tbsp of mayonnaise
-
2 Tbsp of sweet chili sauce
-
1 Tbsp of sriracha
-
Juice from 1 lime
-
1 tsp of honey
-
Kosher salt
Directions
-
Preheat the oven to 400° and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. In a shallow bowl, stir together the bread crumbs, oil, and garlic powder and season with salt and pepper. In another shallow bowl, whisk the eggs. Put the flour in a third bowl. Using tongs (I used my fingers because they were just for me and I like getting a lil messy), dip the shrimp first in the flour, then the eggs, then the panko mixture, and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet. Continue until all the shrimp are coated.
-
Bake until the shrimp are crispy and golden — 13-15 minutes.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, lime juice, and honey. Season with salt.
-
Drizzle the Bang Bang Sauce over the shrimp and garnish with cilantro before serving.
