Graduation is bittersweet this year. It’s been chaotic, even insane and stressful, but also memorable. And, really, if our students could make it through a pandemic and keep on track to GRADUATE, it’s a fair bet they’re prepared for almost anything! So, as we celebrate…here are a few of the best gifts for the graduate in your life.
Let’s Start with Home Goods…
Home is where the heart is, but graduation means that the student is moving to a new chapter of his/her life whether it’s off to the dorms in the fall, to a college apartment, or into a “real” apartment. These gifts may seem like a splurge for students on a tight budget, particularly when they’ve been (or they will be) managing bills, books, etc. Here are some home essentials that your graduate really CANNOT live without:
When you’re talking COFFEE, it might as well be the language of love. A coffee pot is the single-most-used appliance that your new graduate will own. It saves time and money, and is an essential for all those late-night study sessions. We love the Keurig K-Duo as a graduation gift, because it makes both a single cup and a pot of coffee, so it’s versatile and the brand that stands up to LOTS of use!
It may seem like a luxury for a student, but it’s such a must-have. The 8-in-1 Always Pan is a great way to help your grad save time and money while encouraging healthy habits, whether they’re on their way to college or the adult world. But, there’s also the space and function consideration. Imagine giving a gift that does it all: boil, sauté, steam, braise, strain, sear, fry, and serve/store.
It doesn’t matter what stage in life your graduate will be entering, a vacuum is a wonderful gift. If you’re going to give one, though, this RoboVac is highly recommended by our Senior Editor. It sucks up every inch of dust, and cat hair stuck on carpet is no match for this sturdy little robot. It’s definitely worth the investment, and your grad will love it!
While home goods are important and useful to your new grad, you might also consider his/her entertainment needs. A Fire TV Stick 4K streaming device with Alexa Voice Remote is an essential gadget for any student, with the versatility of an Alexa smart remote to support streaming Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV, and HBO Max. Beyond the thousands of channels, apps, and Alexa skills, you’re giving your grad a fully integrated experience.
Speaking of smart devices, your grad will love the Google – Nest Hub (2nd Gen) Smart Display. Who doesn’t love Google, right? This device is like a personal assistant and integrated hub that’s perfect for your new grad’s home/living space. It’s quick and easy to keep tabs on the weather, set wake-up alarms and timer, display how-to videos, play music, and so much more.
If you’re not quite sure what your grad will need or want, a gift card really is the BEST option, now more than ever. At graduation time, he/she will get lots of cool stuff, but an Amazon gift card is something that can last for months, and will come in handy at the moment your grad needs it the most. It’s easy to think of all the home and work stuff that they might need, but honestly, it may just be the perfect way to pay for groceries during a really tight month.
Meal Delivery Service
Whether your new grad is going to college or starting off in the “real” world, a meal service is another great way to make sure they are EATING. There are a ton of options, but the one consistent thread is that the meals tend to be quick-and-easy to fix. So, your grad can take them with them, and remember your well-wishes as he/she enjoys a wonderful meal. Our Junior Content Writer, Tess, loves Marley Spoon, but you can’t go wrong with any of our below picks!
Then, for Work or School…
Whether your graduate is entering college or going to work, they can always use gifts that will help them with their next step in life! These are work and school essentials your grad will need to succeed:
It’s not high school anymore, so you might want to consider helping your grad up their game. Help him/her look and feel more professional with a Leatherology bag, which has the advantage of being durable yet chic with great personalization options.
Or, what about a Tech Folio? It’s becoming a standard requirement. Your grad can easily protect their iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Pro 11″ and carry along all the cord, notebook, and other study/business essentials. It’s the perfect gift solution for busy grads!
Since you know your grad is going to SAVE the world, with their passion for sustainability, we really love the Dagne Dover tote. It’s the perfect solution for the growing number of socially conscious students/grads, with vegan leather and recycling lining.
Then, for Travel…
With so much craziness this year, your grad may be planning to take some time off to travel, see the world, and experience what it’s like outside the US. Now is the perfect time, and it’s wonderful if you’re able to offer some support to their globe-trotting adventures.
I love to give books as gifts to grads. And, one of my favorites is: The Bucket List: 1,000 Adventures Big & Small. It not only is a great one for inspiring adventures, it’s a way for me to give the gift of reading, and to share my most heart-felt passion.
Another gift that will keep on giving AND will last for a long time is luggage. There are so many options from Calpak, with options that will take your grad anywhere he/she wants to go both now and in the future.
Graduation is a celebration of all that we’ve accomplished as a family, a community, and as a group of close friends and acquaintances. You may not know what the next few years will hold for your new grad, but this is a moment to pour a profusion of congratulations over him/her. It’s time for them to aim high, dream big, work hard, and always remember that a whole lot of people love and support them.
