Boots are THE it shoe for spring and summer this year and we blame the white ankle bootie. This little trendsetter seemed to have started it all, but now it’s gone much, much farther than last year’s white boot obsession. This year the boots have exploded into every style and taken over the shoe section- they’re not just for winter and fall anymore but can now officially be considered a year-round staple. I, for one, could not be happier about that.
There are so many ways to wear boots this season, but perhaps my favorite pairing is with a softer floral spring dress. Something about the contrast between a boot, which is traditionally considered a tougher or more masculine shoe paired with a soft, floral, flowy little number just speaks to my sense of balance. So bring out all your favorite boots and add them to your summer sandal and sneaker rotation to create whole new looks with your favorite summer dresses.
1. Little House on the Prairie
Dress: Love Shack Fancy Leighton Dress // Boots: Amazon Mid Calf Western Boots
Got a cute “little house on the prairie” number in your closet, something sweet and soft with a lighter color and maybe some ruffles? This one (or any one) from Love Shack Fancy fits the bill. Pair it with cowboy boots and you’ll be a stand out when everyone else is in sandals and espadrilles. This is a perfect look for a vacation or a weekend picnic or farmer’s market run- anytime you need to bring the cute.
2. A Dark, Floral Romance
If you want to vamp up date night, switch out the strappy summer heels for thigh high or over the knee boots. Paired with a dark, moody floral you’ve got a tone set for romance. This look is ultra sexy, so the dress should have more coverage up top if it’s a mini dress- no need to show it all. He will definitely get the message. This dress by Yumi Kim is the perfect balance, sexy without being overexposed. Yumi Kim does the best mature florals and always has a great balance of just the right amount of skin showing.
3. Sheer Floral Showstopper
Dress: Halogen x Atlantic Pacific Sheer Tiered Maxi Dress // Boots: Dior Mesh Ankle Boots // Belt: Dior Saddle Belt Bag
For a special event, sheer florals are a showstopper. This dress is another one of my finds from the Halogen x Atlantic Pacific line I raved about last week. The sheer overlay lets you peep the attached slip dress underneath and somehow it’s not overwhelming. Worn with gladiator or cutout fishnet boots, you give it some edge and balance the abundance of floral. I added a corset style belt to define my waist even more and continue with the edgy look.
I’ve always loved to pair my spring dresses with boots- it’s a great transitional style. Now I’ll be carrying that look all the way through Summer. Which look will you be rocking this summer?
