I took a trip to New York this month as you may have seen on my Instagram stories and I wanted to share with you some of the fun things I did and places I visited and give some of my recommendations if you plan to visit in the near future. One of the things I was able to do on this trip was participate in the beta testing of a new app called Tivvit, which I am super excited about. It’s a fashion focused community sharing app where I (and everyone else) will be able to share outfits, shopping tips, and real time fashion advice peer to peer. You can ask the community for fashion advice and get immediate answers, build collections that are shoppable and even earn commission! It’s super cool, you guys are gonna love it. I was able to sit in on some of the panels for the Vogue Forces of Fashion event and I learned SO much. I also met a few of my favorite New York based bloggers in person which was super special since it’s always nice to meet online friends in real life. But here we go- these are my travel recommendations if you plan to visit NYC in the near future.
Where to Stay:
This trip we stayed at the Lotte New York Palace. We had a suite in the Towers which has a private lobby and elevator. I’m not sure if that was worth the splurge as I didn’t see a regular suite to compare, but our suite was very good size by NY standards and well appointed. I like the old world style of the Palace Hotel and I am OBSESSED with their dining room, seriously OBSESSED. We have stayed at most of the high end hotels near the park and the Palace is overall a very good value.
We also checked out Robert De Niro’s new hotel The Greenwich Hotel while we were having lunch in their restaurant and I was very impressed! I don’t know if it would work for me when I travel with my husband as he likes to be as close to 5th Avenue shopping as possible, but if I come for work meetings, I would definitely consider staying here. The Japanese style spa is off the charts amazing.
Where to Eat:
The restaurant at The Greenwich Hotel, Locanda Verde was amazing although very loud and very, very crowded. This is definitely a super trendy place to see and be seen. Lots of Hollywood types at every table, felt very LA for a New York restaurant.
My favorite meal of the whole trip was an old school style New York restaurant that took over the Four Seasons location called The Grill. An elevator wisks you up to the private dining room and voila you’re in another world. Straight out of Mad Men, the menu, the ambiance, the dress code- it’s a whole event. And that’s completely my scene.
Another similar type experience is the chef’s tasting menu at Daniel. Very upscale, attentive service, amazing delicious food- expect to be wowed. Perfect for a special occasion.
And of course we couldn’t do New York without a trip to the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. Eating burgers and fries under the trees with several hundred of our closest friends… magical.
Things To Do:
When we go to New York we shop, and shop, and then shop more. A highlight this trip was the new Hudson Yards shopping center- a combination mall, entertainment pavilion, and art exhibit. It’s super cool that it connects to the high line, so you can walk the ridiculously beautiful and cool new High Line park walkway when you need a break from all the retail therapy.
Fall in New York is an event in itself and I could sit in Central Park and marvel and the beauty all day. Just take time to stroll no matter the season, there’s so much to see. We love to walk 5th Avenue, Madison Ave, and Park Ave and see the amazing window displays that the stores put out. Even though it’s not quite the holidays yet, they still go big all year long and I am always amazed.
We had friends in town from Switzerland this trip and spent quite a bit of time with them and did not do many tourist sites since we have seen them all before. Obviously if you haven’t been to the city before you must see the 9/11 memorial, Empire State Building, Times Square etc. We almost always plan a visit to the Met but just couldn’t squeeze it in this time- I adore museums and the Met is one of my favorites. I am always happy to share my recommendations. Let me know if you need any advice for planning a trip!
