The Season for Leather and Suede

Here in Southern California, we don’t really get “seasons” to dress for, we basically have the same weather nearly year round. So when we want to dress for the season, we need to do so using colors and textures or Fall/Winter fabrics. One of my favorite ways to instantly channel a seasonal look is to include some leather or suede. I love the texture and it contrasts really well with knits like cashmere and angora. Super cozy!

I decided to show you three very different looks here so you can really see how versatile suede and leather pieces can be. We tend to think of these fabric options as super edgy, but they really don’t need to be- it’s all in the styling and the tailoring.

For my first look, I am pairing a super soft and cozy fuschia sweater from Minkpink (similar piece here) with these chic black leather trousers I snagged on super sale recently and have been wearing to death. My new obsession for sure.

Next I wanted to showcase the versatility of suede, I picked up this Trina Turk skirt suit featuring a suede jacket and A-line mini from the same Saks sale and paired it with simple black accessories. If you live in colder climates, you could easily add thick tights to make it easier to wear. It’s perfect for the California winter.

Lastly, I shopped my closet for an outfit that I wear a lot in the Winter. When I travel to cold climates I simply throw on a matching wrap to make it cold weather appropriate. These suede leggings from Ralph Lauren are butter soft and the matching booties make your legs look longer when worn together. I’ve had these a few years now, but I will link some similar. This baby cashmere sweater from Loro Piana was an investment, but it’s hands down the softest, coziest thing in my entire closet (similar piece here). And in this neutral gray-beige, it goes with everything.

I hope you are willing to give some leather and suede a try this winter, it will really up your seasonal outfit game.
