1. It is officially time to say goodbye to dryer sheets. They are full of chemicals that can trigger allergies, make our towels less absorbent, make our children’s pajamas less fire resistant. Even worse for the environment, they make our dryer work harder and less effectively. If we aren’t all going back to the days of hanging our laundry out on the line, let’s switch to these adorable wool dryer balls – they naturally soften fabrics, trap lint and hair, and cut drying time. They are organic, natural, biodegradable, and totally safe for babies and pets. If you like a particular scent in your laundry, just add some essential oil drops to them before you put them in the dryer! A pack of 6 is good for 1,000 loads of laundry for only $9.99
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I’ll probably keep saying it until you get them: these CleverMade SnapBaskets will change your life! They’re perfect for grocery shopping, and make me feel like such an organized and put together type of person. I have not been to the store once without someone asking me about them – they are THAT amazing. I have a huge family and have never needed more than three of these, even on my heaviest shopping days. They hold a ton, have reinforced leather handles, stand upright on their own, fold completely flat and take up practically no space when I am not using them. I am so obsessed with these, it’s ridiculous. Buy these. I’m serious. $29.99
3. Fashion Rental Services
Are you the type of person who likes an ever rotating wardrobe of new clothes? Or do you hate being seen in the same dress for special events? Maybe your size fluctuates and so you find yourself buying clothing in increasing and decreasing sizes? Or maybe you are pregnant and the thought of investing in maternity clothes that you’ll only wear for a few months is really pissing you off? The answer may be one of the many fashion rental options available today. These services are becoming more and more popular and for good reason. Fast fashion and fashion waste is a real problem both in the resources used to create each garment and the amount of waste created as clothing is discarded. Companies like Rent The Runway, Armoire, Haverdash, and others are offering monthly rental services to supply an ever changing wardrobe to women that solves many of the issues I mentioned. And brands like Vince, Ann Taylor, Bloomingdales and Rebecca Taylor have started their own in house rental service subscriptions as well. It’s a booming market. So if you like to try new trends or always want to have something fresh to wear, consider one of these rental services instead of purchasing new. It is a much more sustainable option.
We all know we are supposed to stop using plastic straws in order to save the sea turtles, yes? But it’s kind of hard to do if you actually order drinks at fast food restaurants or places that don’t offer alternatives. So my suggestions is to carry these silicone straws with you, I know it sounds kind of crazy but I think it will be something everyone does as routine before long. They come in a pack of 10 with a cleaning brush plus they’re dishwasher safe. I know the metal ones are trending, but I am accident prone and would probably chip a tooth if I toted those around with me. These silicon straws are a safe, cute, and an effective option. $8.95
Disposable makeup wipes are an easy thing to replace. They are fine for travel, but when you are at home just switch them out for these microfiber face cloths. These remove all your makeup and are not harsh on your skin. A pack of 5 is only $14.99. While you’re at it, you might as well replace the cotton rounds we all use for toner and a million other things – here is a pack of 16 reusable and eco-friendly cotton pads for 8.99
Ok so we all get it now that we are supposed to bring our own resuable bags to the market for our groceries, correct? If not, see #2 above! Well, let’s not overlook the single use produce bags we get to put one bunch of lettuce or three apples or whatever we are buying from the produce section into our carts. Those suckers are just as yucky for the Earth as the grocery bags we are trying to do away with. Here is your solution- bringing along (inside your handy SnapBasket) you can carry these woven mesh bags for produce and bulk buys like nuts or candy. Just remember not to store your perishables in them once you get home, the mesh is too breathable and they will go bad faster. Get a set of 9 for $12.69.
