I love wearing head-to-toe black! It’s super chic, but if not paired with the right accessories, it can look a tad somber. Plus, it can make your look a bit forgettable unless you find a way to break up all that dark monochromatic black with an accent. I personally love using gold accents with black. I think they stand out really well, they are elegant and appropriate no matter the occasion.
Another great tip for all monochrome outfits of any shade is to vary the textures of the fabric you are wearing. You want there to be a lot of different tones just using texture- I love mixing leather with cashmere in winter or silk for spring and summer. Linen mixes great with silk also. Denim looks great paired with matte jersey. Or even a tone on tone print can be the right feel.
Here I paired a leather miniskirt, which is one of my wardrobe staples from Fall through Spring with a statement sleeve bodysuit. This skirt is SO versatile and can be worn with anything from a graphic tee to an organza cocktail top. Mine is from Prada, but there are so many options out there in every price point. Just remember with leather and also with something form fitting like a pencil skirt- fabric quality and fit, meaning expert tailoring matters. It’s worth investing in your staple pieces.
My bodysuit is one of my Amazon finds from March. I’ve gotten so much wear out of this, I’m definitely buying it in a few more colors. The wrap style fit and the fact that it’s a bodysuit so you don’t have to deal with tucking it in or having it bunch is a win for me. I added tall Louis Vuitton heels to complete the first layer of my look.
Now to break up all the black, I added this Gucci belt with gold hardware, a gold box clutch from the Rachel Zoe Box of Style, and a lion pendant in gold from Alighieri. I think these pieces are just the right amount of gold to break up the black without being a whole new color for my look. The heels from LV have gold padlocks on the back also. The gold hardware on the belt accentuates my waist and gives some transition between the leather and cotton of the top.
I’ve linked some options of belts with gold buckles along with gold clutches and necklaces similar to the one I’m rocking:
That’s my breakdown on how to accessorize a monochrome black outfit!
I’d love to hear your favorite ways to wear all one color.
