Inauguration Day’s Star Style Was Off The Charts — Steal The Best Looks

Can we just start by saying…WOW. Inauguration Day was a special, celebratory day for many Americans (and even the world). It was a day of triumph, hope, and perseverance. To welcome the new administration, the women in politics did NOT come to play. Former First Lady Michelle Obama, the new First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Jennifer Lopez…the list goes on.

What was so spectacular about the fashion scene on inauguration day were the stories behind the fashion choices (read more about it HERE)! It was a colorful day celebrated with bright hues, jewel tones, and monochromatic looks in classic silhouettes. Michelle Obama

The queen and former First Lady graced us with one of THE best maroon monochromatic looks we’ve ever seen! Michelle Obama has always slayed with her fashion choices and this occasion was no exception! Her look is by Sergio Hudson, a Black American designer. To recreate Michelle’s look, opt for high-waisted wide-leg trousers to create a sleek silhouette and accessorize with a wide belt with gold hardware to accentuate your curves and accessorize your outfit.

Dr. Jill Biden

Our First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, wore a brilliant ocean blue number by Markarian. Her look is so stunning and classy. She wears an overcoat with velvet trimming on the lapels over a midi length sheath dress adorned with Swarovski crystals around the high, round neckline. Great tailoring is key to her monochromatic look! You’ll want to opt for a midi length dress with embellished trims and a coat in the same length. To create interest in a monochromatic look, Dr. Biden wears textured fabrics for added dimension. You can easily recreate the essence of her look with lace, velvet, chiffon, mesh, and tweed, for example.

Amanda Gorman

National Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman, is a vision of brilliance in her custom bright canary yellow coat and her red satin headpiece by Prada and matching face mask. She kept the rest of her look simple and neutral (white top and black bottoms), which is a great styling hack when rocking statement pieces like a yellow overcoat. Let the statement piece speak, and keep it minimal with the jewelry.

Jennifer Lopez

Her bright snow white ensemble by Chanel put her front and center as she performed “This Land Is Your Land” and “America The Beautiful” at the inauguration. J.Lo included a mixture of textures and trims into her all-white outfit — a long white coat with gold buttons and a brilliant high-neck ruffled blouse finished with sharp wide-leg trousers. The key to recreate her look is choosing a ruffled blouse and pairing it with white outerwear and pants while incorporating gold buttons somewhere in the look as an accessory.

Lady Gaga

We’re super impressed with Lady Gaga’s accessories on the special day — a braided twist updo and a large gold brooch of a bird extending an olive branch symbolizing peace. Her updo is easily recreated with a large braided headband that we guarantee will elevate ANY outfit. The trick is to choose a piece that will create a stark contrast against your hair color, the way the black contrasts against Gaga’s bright blonde hair. Gaga is also showing us how chic and modern a brooch can look paired with a minimalist color palette. Secure it to the front of a lapel or blouse (opt for a sturdier fabric) for a refined look.

Bernie Sanders

*Cue the Bernie Sanders mitten memes* Bernie Sanders was the talk of the town with his casual get-up and adorable patterned mittens! The story behind his ethically-crafted mittens is even better — Jen Ellis, a second-grade teacher, gifted Bernie Sanders the mittens on the campaign trail which were made from repurposed wool sweaters and lined with fleece made from recycled plastic bottles. Bernie’s look gained massive popularity and those exact mittens are unfortunately now sold out! But we’ve rounded up a selection similar to the ones Bernie wore so you can go out in your Bernie-inspired look that will keep your hands toasty warm all winter.
