Steal Kelsey’s Ski Style

My Ski style is usually all about embracing the 80s ski apres era. Nine times out of ten, I shop vintage for all of my outfits because I am there to slay the mountain, but also want to be seen on the mountain. I usually go for a ski suit cause who doesn’t love buying one piece instead of two? Plus ski wear can be very expensive for the sporadic skier like me, so buying used is the most budget friendly way while still being fashion forward.  My favorite vintage brands to shop are NILS and Kaelin. My favorite sites to find these brands are Ebay, Poshmark, and Depop.

Anyone who is planning their ski trip outfits has probably either succumbed to buying pricey separates or tried to make the best of the snow gear they already own. Both of these choices aren’t wrong by the way; I just don’t ski enough to invest in Burton, and the winter gear I own will not keep me warm or dry on the mountain. What I love about shopping vintage ski suits is that you’re buying the pants and jacket in one deducted price.

Key Tips For Shopping Vintage Snow Attire:

Now shopping vintage ski wear comes with some commitment because you’re looking for one of a kind pieces. You might find “the one” but it may not come in your size so you gotta keep looking! I am here to tell you that there are plenty of fish (suits) in the sea and you will find the one!

The way to find the suit that best fits you is to search vague key words like: “Vintage NILS ski suit, 80s ski suit”. I suggest starting off by looking for the color you feel most confident in!

Know your size:  Remember sizing in the 80s is different from today — so they can vary. I can wear a size 4-6 comfortably, I would suggest always going a size up to leave room for your thermal layers.

Perfect Moment and Sweaty Betty are my 2 favorite ski brands.

To achieve the looks I’m wearing, you’ll want a comfy and warm base layer like this and matching pants. These sets will go a long way and are perfect for winter and layering. This snow bib is also a great option to tackle the cold, cold weather and is super stylish. In the left photo, I’m wearing this merino wool sweater from Perfect Moment and every year they do a different color selection.

I also buy a lot of my snow gear from Amazon. It’s cheap and they have good quality stuff if you’re not going someplace that’s a fashion show like Aspen or Sun Valley. I recently bought these waterproof boots and this long puffer duster coat and they’re cute and warm without breaking the bank!
