These Pajama Sets Are My New Favorite Form Of Self Care

If you want to know me as a person, the main thing you need to understand is that I own more pajamas and loungewear than I do regular clothes. I dream of the day when I reach the age where proprietary clothing flies out the window and my “indoor” wardrobe and “outdoor” wardrobe can finally merge. Like my dearly departed and much missed elderly grandmother, I will unabashedly rock a velour sweatsuit to my son’s wedding and not bat an eye. (To be fair, it WAS bedazzled, which made it formal, no?)

How did I get here; a champion of the pajama drawer? I’ll tell you, because I remember its origin clearly. I was with my daughters in a Justice store (remember those?), buying them both adorable little pajama sets that came with sleep masks and slippers to match. They were wholly unnecessary, and extravagant for our budget at the time, but I didn’t think twice. As I stood in the checkout line, I realized that while my kids wore exclusively matching pajama sets that always fit them properly, I was making do with my ex-husband’s old sweats and a stack of t-shirts we would get for free from company barbecues and sporting events. The next time I was in Target, I strolled through the pajama section and bought myself a super soft, two-piece pajama set, and I haven’t looked back since.

Here’s the thing — I have a closet full of beautiful clothes to wear when I leave the house. I take pride in how I dress and in projecting a feeling of “this lady has her shit together” to the outside world, even if it’s often far from the truth. But at home, when I change into one of my cute, coordinated lounge sets, or a butter-soft pajama outfit, I’m doing it for nobody but me. It’s simply me placing value on myself and spoiling myself in a way that benefits only me. This mindset has a “snowball” effect on all the ways I continue to take care of myself and do things for my own benefit.

So, if you’ve been feeling a little down lately or not prioritizing yourself in the way you should, start small and invest in your pajama drawer. Here are some of our favorite sets to get you started:
