Happy New Year, Monet Book Club! It’s been a crazy year already (and we’re only a couple weeks into it!) and we think you might need a bit of a brain break. So without further ado, here’s what to read, what to watch, and what to listen to this month!
What to Read:
If you don’t already have Amazon Prime, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial here.
The Gift of Fear
by Gavin de Becker
Ok, every woman (really every person) should read this book. I’m a huge believer of intuition and trusting your gut — we all too often talk ourselves out of the primal intuition we feel as “overreacting” or “being silly” and we need to learn to trust those instincts as they can save our lives!

Untamed
by Glennon Doyle
Full disclosure: I haven’t read this one yet but it’s next on my list, and everyone I know who’s read it says it’s amazing. Untamed is a memoir by Glennon Doyle about how she abandoned the idea that she must live as society dictated, and started living in a way true to herself. I can’t wait to get to this one. Also, Glennon Doyle is a queen on social media.

East of Eden
by John Steinbeck
Start 2021 off with a classic! If you haven’t read this one yet, you have to. If you’ve already read it, time to pick it up again. This is one of my favorite books of all time (yes, I have the word “timshel” tattooed on my wrist) and a must read for any fan of good literature. It’s a long read, but an easy and entertaining one. Do yourself a favor and buy a copy — this is one you’ll want to keep on your shelf for ages.

What to Watch:
Bridgerton
Haven’t seen this one yet? Well, it’s about to be your new favorite period drama. Salacious storyline aside (it’s basically Gossip Girl meets Pride and Prejudice), the visuals are to die for, the characters are dreamy, some of the scenes are seriously steamy – an all-around win in our book!
Check it out on Netflix!
Cobra Kai
Whether you’re an 80’s kid and this hits you with some serious nostalgia, or you’re new to the Karate Kid universe, this series is for everyone. Johnny and Danny are back, Johnny’s now the protagonist (?!?!?) and this series manages to take a much-beloved classic, modernize it, and keep the heartwarming humor and depth of the original story. We love this one!
Check it out on Netflix!
Death To 2020
The dumpster fire year is over – time to make fun of it. If you, like me, prefer to use humor as a coping mechanism, you’ve gotta watch this. It’s a little hour and 10 minute jaunt through the year that will need its own history book, and it’s hilarious. You’ll be laugh-crying through the whole thing. Or cry-laughing.
Check it out on Netflix!
What to Listen To:
Ladies First
This is the official In Style podcast hosted by Laura Brown and has tons of celebrity female guests talking about everything and anything from motherhood to beauty to social issues. It’s ear candy for sure.
Crime Junkie
If you’re looking for something to binge, there’s tons of episodes available. These two girls are SO charming and do a great job of deep diving into each case they cover. Plus they highlight adoptable dogs each month, which I LOVE.
The Babysitter’s Club Club
Who else grew up reading Ann M. Martin’s hit series, The Babysitter’s Club? If you were a child of the 80’s or 90’s, you’ve read at least a few of them. Relive your best childhood memories with a hilarious twist as two (fully grown, I promise) men read the entire series and discuss it. Super in-depth. You’ll walk away from this one wondering how you missed Stoneybrook’s obvious conspiracies, and you’ll fall in love with the series all over again.
What do you think of this month’s picks? Is there anything you’d add? Let us know in the comments!
