My Favorite Floral Dress Silhouettes for this Spring and Summer

I know I can’t be the only one who has spent a good amount of this stay at home time cooking and eating… so much eating. I’ve dusted off my culinary school skills and made elaborate dinners, baked treats almost every day, made full blown meals for lunch instead of our usual salads. It’s been an all you can eat buffet all day, every day. And that’s not even getting me started on the wine and cocktails which flow pretty freely around here come 4:30 or 5:00.

So while staying at home and sheltering in place has probably helped “flatten the curve”- it is NOT helping flatten my curves. I’m doing my best to offset the constant snacking by taking long walks, using my Peloton and my DB Method machine. But I am outmatched by all this food and I will for sure be coming out of quarantine with some extra “fluff” if you get my meaning.

So thank goodness for comfortable Spring dresses that are forgiving in all the right areas. I tend to show weight gain in my midsection and chest, so when I’m feeling a little “fluffy”, I reach for looser styles that don’t highlight these areas and instead choose to show off my legs which are usually a stronger feature for me. I really believe in dressing to your body type and comfort level- whatever makes YOU feel your personal best. Dress for yourself, not anyone else!!

petersyn dress

This Petersyn mini dress is one of my favorites because the red and white floral pattern reminds me of an antique china pattern. The asymmetrical hem and exaggerated puff sleeves pull your eye away from the mid section and the A-line skirt is flattering for all shapes. This dress silhouette is SO popular that Petersyn makes it almost every season in a different fabric and print. Because it’s flattering on almost every body. Here’s a similar one as well! I styled it with simple brown boots and a cross body bag to leave most of the focus on the dress.

mini floral dress

I also love mini dresses with elastic smocking at the waist because the elastic is comfortable and forgiving but still creates some midline definition. This dress from Misa Los Angeles is a cute little flirty blue floral piece with a button front and tiered ruffle skirt. It’s the perfect vacation dress because it’s truly day to night. I styled it here with white Keds, but you could just easily swap them out for pumps and head off to dinner. My oversized floral earrings are by Lele Sedoughi and are the perfect match for this dress. I would take this dress on vacation and wear it as a coverup during the day and then with strappy heels out at night. I also really appreciate how the sleeves come slightly over my shoulders and aren’t like a tank top look- more like cap sleeves because my upper arms are not my favorite feature and this length is so much more flattering.

Here are some more examples of fun, flattering mini dresses to ease back into regular life while we all recover from our quarantine 15.
