Slay The End of 2020 With Life Lessons from Queen Bey Herself

Who doesn’t know and love Beyoncé? Not only is she one of the most successful female artists of all time, she’s been named in the Time: Top 100 Most Influential People TWICE! She’s worked hard to be where she’s at, and she’s learned a lot along the way.
Here’s some wisdom Queen Bey has shared that will help you slay the end of 2020 and begin the new year on the right foot!

“When I’m not feeling my best I ask myself, ‘What are you gonna do about it?’ I use the negativity to fuel the transformation into a better me.”

2020 has made a lot of us feel helpless. Whether we have to stay home to keep those around us safe or we feel disillusioned by the seemingly endless unrest and virus circulating right now, Beyoncé reminds us that the only thing in life we can control is ourselves and our reactions. Growth doesn’t happen when you’re comfortable, and 2020 has definitely not been a comfortable year, but it’s within the discomfort that we find the strength to choose the life we want, one decision at a time.

“The most alluring thing a woman can have is confidence”

You’ve heard this advice before, but there’s something magical about hearing it from Queen Bey who is the essence of confidence, success, and basically everything we want to be when we grow up: confidence is queen. I know it’s hard to build up confidence in a society that doesn’t seem to like it when women succeed, but baby steps are all it takes to gain that confidence in your skills and character, and really, it’s all uphill from there.

“We all have our purpose, we all have our strengths.”

Okay, Beyoncé said this at the United Nations in New York, so you know this is important. If we were all exactly like Beyoncé, there wouldn’t be anything extraordinary about her, and that’s the same for you. Your strengths and uniqueness are something that only you can bring to the table, and even if it doesn’t feel like it, the world needs you. Though you might not feel like you have any strengths or purpose, trust me, you do and they’re beautiful. And if you are still unsure, heading into the New Year is a great time to be invited into some self-reflection and self-love!

“Be healthy and take care of yourself, but be happy with the beautiful things that make you, you”.

Comparison is relentless, so it’s no shock that even the Queen of the Bey-hive is preaching about a little self-love and celebration. It’s important to take care of your body, but not at the expense of your mind and soul. Learning to love those quirks about yourself is hard, but oh so worth it once you finally feel healthy and comfortable in your own skin.

“Your self-worth is determined by you. You don’t have to depend on someone telling you who you are.”

This one hits close to home for me, because I love giving away my worth for other people to determine for me. It’s easy to feel like other people determine our value, or feel if someone else loves me enough, then that will fill the identity void in my heart. But I’ve found that no matter what other people say, I’m always going to want more affirmation until I take the time to work on determining my own worth. It’s reassuring to know that even Beyoncé can’t tell us how valuable we are and that it’s a journey to go on for ourselves.
