Steal Her Style! Andy Sachs’ ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Style Is Über Chic

You know the movie: a formerly frumpy Anne Hathaway undergoes a stylish transformation to fit her new role under an intimidating, glamorous older woman played by an Oscar-winning actress. Sorry, Princess Diaries fans. I’m talking about The Devil Wears Prada.

Released in 2006, the film quickly became every fashion fan’s required viewing. Anne Hathaway’s character Andy Sachs takes on a grueling gig as an assistant to Runway magazine editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Once Andy trades her ill-fitting coats and frumpy sweaters for clothes from Runway’s extensive sample closet, viewers are treated to an envy-inducing montage of Andy’s new looks.

While some of the movie’s trends are firmly entrenched in the noughties (so many layered shirts!), plenty of Andy’s post-makeover ensembles remain genuinely, well, groundbreaking. We rounded up the best Andy Sachs outfits from The Devil Wears Prada, plus the cutest pieces to recreate ’em — read on to see our picks.

The Big Reveal

Andy unveils her refreshed fashion (and better haircut) with this bold look. Shocked, fellow assistant Emily stammers, “Are you wearing the–” to which Andy iconically replies, “The Chanel boots? Yeah, I am.” Your boots don’t have to be Chanel — just aim for sleek and super thigh-high. Balance the va-va-voom vibes with a preppy blazer.

Go Green

One of our favorites from Andy’s montage of ensembles, this kelly green coat screams Jackie Kennedy. Choose your favorite shade of green — whether you prefer sage, emerald, or pistachio, a verdant topper is an instant eye-catcher. Nod to Andy’s leopard collar and cuffs with a spotted accessory or two.

Goth Chic

Think Wednesday Addams, if she worked at Vogue. Andy’s sleek collared dress is probably her most timeless ensemble, for good reason — you can’t go wrong with black and white. Give the style a fresh spin with fun details, like a subtle pattern, gold buttons, or a built-in bow.

Winter White

Andy loves her knee-length coats. Take cues from this elegant outfit and don some ivory outerwear and a grey hat. Purists will reach toward a pageboy, while those looking to mix it up (and keep their ears warmer!) might try a cozy cashmere beanie.
