The boiler suit trend has been going hot and heavy for several Spring seasons now and this year it seems to have really taken off like a rocket. I can only imagine that is being fueled by everyone wanting to stay cool and comfy while stuck at home and at the same time looking a little more chic and put together than the typical loungewear or activewear look we all seem to be sporting lately. My modern take on the jumpsuit for this year, with a nod to the more casual trend of 2020, is to take it in a denim direction.
With much of the world under shelter in place orders, we definitely don’t want to look like we are trying too hard. But a little effort isn’t a bad thing – maybe it’s time to give the pajamas the day off, no? But I think a one-and-done outfit is pretty much all we have the energy for at this point anyway. So why not pick a one piece that’s stylish, comfortable, and on trend? Enter the denim boiler suit! I styled both a long version and a shorts version for you here for two different looks. If the weather isn’t Spring-ish yet where you are, feel free to layer a turtleneck underneath for a cute twist.
My baggy and oversized full-length boiler suit is by Pistola, a favorite budget jeans brand of mine. It runs very oversized and can be intimidating when you first put it on, but it’s all in the details – I rolled the legs to create a more cuffed style and cinched the waist with a cute belt, giving me a more defined shape as well as breaking up all the uniform blue of the denim. If I was headed out in the outfit and not just jumping on zoom meetings, I would add a pop of color with a cute handbag or clutch in a bright shade. You could easily wear this in the evening to dinner with spiky, strappy heels but since I wore it for daytime, I stuck with low ankle boots to keep it casual.
For the shorter version, I paired it with a soft pink pair of pumps and a floral Gucci bag with a bamboo clasp (alternatives here and here). This would be a great brunch outfit to take you all the way through Summer. This Heartloom romper is lightweight denim and a darker blue with a built in belt (natural color available here). It’s super soft, almost like linen and hangs really well even on someone with a long torso like me. I think denim rompers like this make a great alternative to summer dresses, especially for breezy days or boat trips, anytime you don’t want to be tugging down a skirt all day or want to be more active.
There are so many cute denim rompers in varied styles available right now, there’s really one for every body type and fit. It’s such an easy throw it on and go outfit, it’ll become a staple of your summer and spring wardrobe.
