Dress For Success: These Interview Outfits Are Sure To Impress!

If you found yourself participating in the Great Resignation, you’re probably searching for your next job –- preferably one with flexible work-from-home options and great healthcare, right? Maybe you’ve even scored an interview or two. But after spending the past two years living in sweatpants and the occasional, obligatory button-up and blazer for Zoom meetings, “dressing for success” seems more like a long-lost fantasy than an easily-adhered-to rule. Seriously, why does it seem so hard to find good interview outfits for women?

So, your big interview is coming up, and you’re worried about what to wear. Who wouldn’t be, especially if you’ve been out of the swing of things during the pandemic? This is where you make your big first impression. Did you know that within the first 7 seconds of meeting someone, they’ve already made up their mind about you? It can be super daunting trying to figure out what’s appropriate but also what still shows your personality. So today, we’re here to help you build the perfect interview outfit to make you stand out!

Depending on the job you are applying for, you’re going to need to dress a little differently. We’ve created a few options depending on what you feel most comfortable in and what’s most appropriate. When picking out your shoes, make sure you always pick a closed-toe shoe, and if you’re not comfortable in a heel, opt for a flat! As long as your shoes are professional and you can walk comfortably in them, you will emulate confidence.

Trouser + Button Up

If you feel like a blazer is too much for this interview and you aren’t as comfortable in a dress, what’s the next best option? Trousers and a button-up! I know that may sound like a boring combo but, trust us, this can be so professional and speak to who you are. You don’t have to wear a plain cotton button-down, either – try experimenting with different colors and patterns. Whatever top you decide to go for, remember to be aware of your cleavage. It’s totally fine to keep a few buttons undone but stay within one to two. If you have a bigger bust, make sure there aren’t gaps between the buttons.

Blazer + Trouser + Bodysuit

This combo, I like to call the “power suit” — it’s where comfort meets confidence! Wearing a pantsuit can tell your interviewer you are confident and you mean business. We suggest wearing a bodysuit when styling; it will stay tucked and virtually wrinkle-free which will make you look super put together.

Dress + Heels

This combo is always a safe bet when going into an interview. If you are unsure about what you should wear or what the dress code for your interview is, a dress and heels will always be appropriate! When you go with this option, we recommend going for a midi-dress – it guarantees no awkward wardrobe malfunctions. You can always opt for a fitted blazer, too.

Blouse + Midi-Skirt

This outfit is something you would normally see in offices and you probably already have in your closet. Like the dress, we suggest a midi skirt – not only is it professional, but it will allow you to be comfortable and its safe length helps avoid malfunctions. Whether you’re in a pencil skirt or a pleated skirt, a simple blouse and heel can easily dress it up.

Whether you’re in-person or on Zoom, it’s important to make sure you are dressed head to toe, not only half of your body. Recently, it’s become a practice for employers to ask you to stand up and take a step back at the end of a Zoom interview. You don’t want to stand up and step back only to reveal you are really wearing your cozy clothes on your lower half. So, take the extra time, put on that outfit, and get that job!
