Searching for something a bit more….boozy? Look no further than this Brandy-Spiked Mexican Hot Chocolate recipe courtesy of Beyond Mere Sustenance. A little spicy. A little boozy. A lot delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk or half n’ half

  • 1/2 cup Mexican dark chocolate (at least 70% or it will be too sweet!)

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 tsp agave nectar

  • 1/4 cup brandy (You don’t need “top shelf” spirits, but get something drinkable)

  • 1 tbsp mole bitters, or substitute chocolate, cinnamon, or orange bitters if you can’t find them (optional)

  • garnishes: whipping cream, cinnamon, orange zest (optional)

Directions

  1. Add milk or half and half to a small saucepan over medium-low heat.

  2. Add chocolate and stir slowly until all dissolved.

  3. Add in the cinnamon, chipotle powder, and agave nectar and stir well.

  4. Just before serving, add the brandy and do NOT boil!

  5. Pour the chocolate into mugs and serve with whip cream.

While you’re piling on the calories, add a dollop of whipped cream, and garnish with orange zest and/or cinnamon. Trust me. The calories are worth it!
