Is Hypnotherapy Legit? Learn About This Unique Practice From A Hypnotherapist

Over the last several years, I have had the privilege of hypnotizing many clients who courageously choose to overcome personal limitations and improve the quality of their lives.   The most common question a new client asks me is: How will I know if I am hypnotized?

When you are under hypnosis, you are experiencing a trance-like state which is very natural and the truth is, we are all experiencing this heightened state of awareness several times a day.  You can think of this trance state as if the mind were on auto-pilot.  Have you ever driven from point A to point Z without remembering the details of how you got there?  Have you ever been so engrossed in a movie that when someone talked to you, you were temporarily absent until your body jerked and their words came into your consciousness?  Have you ever briefly forgotten your surroundings and the time while reading your emails on your smartphone? Then you know what it feels like to be hypnotized.  What you are experiencing is a relaxed state combined with heightened focus and awareness.   Many people are aware of people being hypnotized on a live stage for entertainment purposes. Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, is life-changing.  Hypnotherapy is a clinical practice, just like any other form of psychotherapy, and can be used to treat many issues affecting mental, physical and emotional health.

During a hypnotherapy session, you are simply more relaxed, your brain waves have slowed down and your conscious awareness is taking a backseat to your subconscious mind.  Your powerful subconscious mind is where all of your habits, fears, emotions and memories are stored.  Typically, people are more familiar with meditation as a tool to relax the mind and body. Many of my clients, however, find the state of hypnosis easier to achieve than meditation due to the fact that when in hypnosis, you are giving your mind an active job to do.  A hypnotherapist will guide you into narrowing your focus to take in specific suggestions rather than concentrating on clearing your mind of all thoughts, as in meditation.

Hypnotherapy is a safe and simple intervention.  It’s important to know that you never lose control during a session. While under hypnosis, the subconscious mind simply becomes open to suggestion.  All fears, phobias, habits and undesirable behaviors are held in the subconscious mind, which is why hypnosis is a powerful tool to resolve and correct issues.  People of all ages can benefit from hypnotherapy.  Hypnotherapists assist children as young as 5 years old with bed wetting issues, for example. Self-hypnotic audio recordings created by a hypnotherapist can also help induce a receptive state where embedded suggestions assist in positive behavioral changes.  Once my clients have their first session with me, they are given a personalized recording which creates new neural pathways to reinforce the desired changes.  It takes 21 days to change a habit. A self-hypnotic recording helps the listener to internalize embedded suggestions of new thoughts and images on their own time.

Some of the most common applications for hypnotherapy include acute pain, addictions, anxiety, depression, IBS, childbirth, chronic pain, high blood pressure, migraines, smoking cessation, weight loss, sleep disorders, sports performance, alcohol reduction, focus and memory improvement, public speaking confidence and self-esteem issues.

If you are struggling with a limitation in your life, hypnotherapy is the key to working with your powerful subconscious mind to discover its motivation for creating and supporting your internal pain.

There are no limitations to finding life fulfillment and peace of mind when accessing your subconscious mind through hypnosis. As Joseph Murphy, a well -respected New Thought minister and prolific author regarding the subconscious once said, “You are like a captain navigating a ship…you must give the right orders, thoughts and images to your subconscious which controls and governs all your experiences.”

  1. It was interesting when you explained that hypnosis makes our subconscious more open to suggestions. My sister mentioned she wants to look for unconventional treatment options to help her quit smoking this summer. I’ll have to do some further research to see if hypnosis could be beneficial for achieving her goal. https://torontohypnosiscentre.com
